Insomniac (Sonnet)

Sleep evades I toss and turn

Begging for good nights rest

This is all for which I yearn

Searching for slumber in jest

Plague as a Vampire to obambulate

Passing hour after hour on end

Striving on my sanity confiscate

Of this my foe will not bend

Try as I might absolute I am sure

My struggle most nights will go on

An insomniacs fate for eternity endure

Lasting until I am gone

Maybe its time for Ambien’s magic

To sleep before body and mind go tragic

Word: Obambulate

Jem Farmer – The Boi Poet – Words at the Weekend – 21-22 September 2013 Poetry Prompt

Staring Blindly Into The Great Beyond (Sonnet)

Staring blindly into the great beyond

Feet broken and blistered at life’s crossroad

Scarcely knowing how to respond

From bearing these trials, a heavy load

This burden great, when might it end

Providing the bounty the Lord inspired

My back is weary with painful bend

Longing for rest, I’m oh so tired

Fate has dealt a sour hand

One which beats this soul far down

A wish to stand on solid land

Is swallowed up and surely drowned

In the end where doth fault lie

Somewhere unknown when this body dies

She Blew In Raging (Shakespearean Sonnet)

She blew in raging and tearing at the soul;

A wake of rubble, blood, sweat and tears,

The nation gave to again make it whole,

To still their brothers and sisters fears

Crane and hoe and muscle revived

What Sandy smashed and to the sea let go,

But yet through the horror, hope survived,

Resilience and courage of spirit showed.

Seaside Heights and Park unknown

For an instant became a boardwalk show;

Notoriety and fame unwanted have grown,

Little seashore hamlets we’ve come to know.

The Devil’s flame of hell has retorn,

Again from tragedy it shall be reborn.

Looking Back (Shakespearean Sonnet)

Looking  back upon the boy of youth,

The world seemed such a hopeful place;

So full of promise and full of truth,

Enough for all the human race.

Government a partner and a friend,

One we did not need to fear.

Alway there with a helping hand,

Their mission statement was oh so clear.

Protect and nurture and not infringe;

The mandate since the fathers founded.

Avoid at all cost a spending binge;

Ideals of old were firmly grounded.

Now this world once so full of hope

Is sliding down corruptions slippery slope.

Authors Note: This is my first attempt at a sonnet, I know it isn’t quite as Shakespearean as Shakespeare would have liked it, but it seemed to work for the topic.
