Sleep evades I toss and turn
Begging for good nights rest
This is all for which I yearn
Searching for slumber in jest
Plague as a Vampire to obambulate
Passing hour after hour on end
Striving on my sanity confiscate
Of this my foe will not bend
Try as I might absolute I am sure
My struggle most nights will go on
An insomniacs fate for eternity endure
Lasting until I am gone
Maybe its time for Ambien’s magic
To sleep before body and mind go tragic

Word: Obambulate
Jem Farmer – The Boi Poet – Words at the Weekend – 21-22 September 2013 Poetry Prompt
Can I ever relate to this! Huge smiles.
Unfortunately I think it happens to most of us one time or another. :)
I hate nights like that. Hope you get some sleep.
I finally did, I popped a couple Melatonin and relaxed enough to get a little sleep.
What happen, Dom? I have been there before
Thank you my friend, it happens to everyone occasionally, I guess my mind was just too busy to sleep. :)
sleep? what is that? (grins)
Did someone say sleep, I think I met her once. :)
Splendid vocabulary – obambulate – waahay! :-)
Thanks to Jem Farmer for the word, I had never heard it before. I guess we are never too old to learn something new. :)
Sleep has been a stranger to me for so long I really relate to this wonderful piece
Excellent use of the prompt
Thanks Jem, I’m glad that you liked the poem. I have had so many bouts of insomnia over the past few years that I’ve lost count, but that makes it no less annoying.
As someone who suffers from frequent bouts of RLS, I can relate to this. Nice use of the word obambulate (had to look that one up).
Thank you very much. If it wasn’t for the prompt, I don’t know that I would have ever found or thought to use the word in a poem. It just shows that we can learn something new everyday no matter how old we are. :)
