The thorn of a rose
The petals soft and silky
Draw blood to find love
~~ D. R. DiFrancesco ~~
When passions fail tears bathe the wounded soul
Drowning the pain so freely inflicted
Hurt is temporary by design so be unyielding
Willing arms are outstretched to comfort you
You will not be abandoned for I am with you always
~~
No words need spoken
Your silence speaks the volumes of emotion enveloping you
My heart is torn and bleeding in your agony
Tearing at me like shards of shattered glass
Razor sharp and unrelenting in intensity
~~
Healing seems impossible amongst the ruin of betrayal
But you must have the courage to trust again
Take my hands and give me all of your sorrow
This is what my love and friendship tender
Without condition or reservation
~~
Know that you are adored by those around you
Your loss and heartbreak is shared with compassion
Drawing out that which tortures your spirit
Leaving you consoled and warm
Able to experience love again

A lavender haze abounds
The scent of lilac and persimmon permeates the air
What heavenly gifts to the senses
You, my love are such a treasure to behold
Bathed in these precious gifts from God
Your ivory skin soft to the touch
Perfumed in natures bounty stimulates my soul
Surely this must be Utopia
For to know you, you must be loved
In you is found serenity
A beauty deeper than the deepest of oceans
What further testimony need be professed
Than that of one enlightened by your being
It is not the physical alone
No, for that would be ensconced in the superficial
This may suffice were it not for your genuine modesty
Mere words can not portray the essence of you
As it is hidden behind a gentle facade
To ask for more would be an act of gluttony
An offence to the glory of nature
A sin against the wisdom of the Creator
You are perfection in my tired eyes
Beloved for all time

Carnal excitement
Blood coursing through tender veins
Lost on one night stands
~~~
Your blue eyes cut deep
Filling the hole in my soul
With abundant love
~~~
We sit quietly
Lost in a tender embrace
Shutting out the world
~~~
Unrequited love
Corrupts the delicate heart
Leaving it broken
Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder,
As does love when souls grow older,
Doth the mind play tricks on the aging eye,
Maybe so, it most surely try.
Portraying the look of younger days,
We overlook the changing grays,
Projecting on the freshness of youth,
Beliefs most surely are the truth.
With utmost certainty a gift this must be,
For lovely today as the first are thee,
Is this a trick or are we but blind,
Left to the mercy of a hopeful mind.
Doth this make us mere fools to our memory,
Would have it no other way if it let me,
Hiding away the ravages of time,
Leaving in life a love most sublime.
Words can be kind but you prefered cruel
Thrown like a javelin
Piercing my still beating heart
What angry motives you display
Spewed like a child pouting and juvenile
But you are not a child
Those years are long past
Yet you refused to show restraint
Did I wound you
If so, I beg your pardon, for this was not my intention
Malice is not in my nature
You know this better than anyone
Can you ever forgive me my ignorance
For I know not where I erred
Clairvoyance has always eluded me
As does the cause of our rift
I’ve tried repeatedly to make amends
But my cries go unanswered
We have been confidants for a lifetime
Oh how it pains me that we cannot ford this divide
Yet my hope blossoms
That the hurt can be soothed
Reuniting us once more
Can you hear my beating heart?
An echo in nights quiet,
A subliminal sound that you can’t ignore.
Can you feel my gentle caress?
Tender on your skin,
A chill up your spine that beckons you on.
Can you taste my loving kiss?
Soft and sweet on your longing lips,
A confection born out of passions throes.
Can you sense my warm embrace?
Enveloping your soul in romances glow,
A fire that burns white hot in an intimate affair.
All that I am I give to you,
A heart that beats for you,
A touch that longs for you,
A kiss thats deep for you,
An embrace that waits for you,
These are my gifts to you my love,
Now and forever.
Do not look me in the eyes my love,
For my intentions are seldom pure as a dove.
In constant labor to prove my worth are I,
Lest I fall from your grace wither and die.
With a gentle stoke of my cheek you reassure me,
That I am all you ever hoped that I could be.
Still I fret that my offering is not enough,
Insecurity has aged me wrinkled rough.
Yet you look upon me as if youthful and spry,
With a devil-may-care twinkle in your eyes.
And that come hither smile you so oft display,
Leaves me breathless as always in night or day.
Unworthy am I to be held in esteem,
Yet with each day I awake to find this isn’t a dream.
Should this not be what love is about,
I ponder and pray that it’s never in doubt.
Maybe, my love, in all the world you’re unique,
To have fallen for this fool with all others you could seek.
If this somehow by irony be true,
No one else could I have cherished any more than you.
Dark of night casts no shadow upon you,
Your radiance like a shield rejects the approaching twilight,
Do you recognize your own brilliance?
A resounding no projects itself to the world.
From the first time I beheld you,
Captivated by an acumen cast by the maker himself,
Sharp and heated as a solar flare,
Scorched impressions left on everyone in it’s path.
Yet surviving within your universal turbulence is tenderness,
Soft and warm drawing in those most dear,
Contrary to your impetuous past,
You shine your bronze rays on all that surrounds you.
You are stellar and strong,
Divine in your organic beauty,
Any change would make you less than who you were meant to be,
Perfect in your humanly flawed design.
