Man and the Moon

Blue black early morning sky,

Iridescent moon ,

Challenging the sun for relevance,

Destined to fail,

It will not retreat without a fight,

Not unlike the courageous man,

On the cusp of battle,

Facing mortality,

Willingly sacrificing himself,

In the face of imminent defeat,

All for a greater cause.

Drift of ivory snow

Pristine as the day it fell

Like a newborn babe

A Fools Infatuation

I hoped you’d see me for who I am,

Kind, tender, loving,

Not the image in a funhouse mirror.

~~

Twisted, distorted,

Too tall and thin, too short and fat,

Maybe a little different.

~~

Dredging up the courage,

Heart feeling ready to burst,

Dry throated I swallowed.

~~

Struggling to make a sound,

I offered my heart,

You laughed.

~~

Crushed, eyes welling with tears,

Head in hands to hide the shame,

Soulless succubus.

~~

Confidence torn to shreds,

Heart eviscerated, raised to the scorching sun,

It withered.

~~

What a fool I was,

To be so presumptuous,

That you could ever love me.

Love for a child

Forged from true steel in the womb

Unbreakable bond

Silent Cries

An infant’s cry shatters another sleepless night

A mother, devoid of life sustaining nectar clutches her baby to her breast

A father weeps silently, drinking in his plight as if hemlock

Sadness shelters the family under its ramshackle peak

Hopelessness feeds their malnourished appetites

What excuse can be waged in this modern year

Brown or white, skin is of no significance

It is not a barrier to the ravages of hunger and poverty

Saying it does not exist does not make it so

As ignorance is not an excuse for blindness

Is there not enough for all

Are not sunken eyes and bloated bellies reason to intervene

Reason to give voice to the cries that no one hears

To tears shed that no one sees

To dreams dreamt that no one believes

Compassion and empathy must foster change

The sighted must open the eyes of the blind

The deaf must be compelled to hear

This is humanities charge

Shame of Intolerance

Drama perseveres,
We remain shackled and chained to our past,
Bound to ideals thought long ago buried.
~~
Under the same sky we are born and die,
Returned back to the earth caste-less.
~~
Equality seems a distant dream.
~~
We feign to have grown,
Only to rebound to our stunted ways,
Taking aim at the latest victim.
~~
Shouldn’t we be color blind to the flesh by now,
Incomprehensible is it to have to legislate,
Over and over and over.
~~
These delusions are not the end,
Fear mongering has become both sport and folly,
Substituting understanding for hostility and ignorance,
Attempting to rally the naive.
~~
Those that hide behind their faith,
Calling evil, those beliefs that differ,
Claiming superiority,
Believe the propaganda.
~~
We think we have progressed,
Advanced beyond infantile characterizations,
But we have not, we have digressed ,
Becoming more intolerant.
~~
Residents of the rainbow are criticized and shamed,
As if their orientation was free will,
Demoralizing them as abominations before God.
~~
Shallow and nescient is your moral constitution,
When will those of conscience rise up,
Ushering in diversity and equality.
~~
Freeing those marginalized by a witless society,
To live full and fulfilling lives.

Your childish rants

Make you look foolish and small

Its time to grow up

Invisible

This passionate heart,

Buried deep within, beating in rhythm with your every breath,

Yet I cannot find the right words to tell you so.

~~

Tongue tied by emotions in wont of regurgitation,

Swallowed back due to my own apprehension,

These burning embers sour in the pit of my stomach.

~~

I glance your way in hopes of recognition

Momentary contact from your crystalline blue eyes gives me hope

Until I realize you are looking through me.

~~

I am veiled from your sight,

The background in the play that is your life,

Dressing to complete your pretty picture.

~~

What must I do to lead in your panoply,

All that I am I would gladly bestow upon you,

Without hesitation or precondition.

~~

If only I was endowed with the fortitude,

But I am not and never have been,

Instead my timidity consumes me.

~~

Breathless I am left to watch you from the sidelines,

Only dreaming of what might have been,

Wishing that fate had shined a loving light upon us.

~~

But it was not to be,

As destiny has dictated the climax of this cruel tango,

Leaving one of us to be the wallflower.
