Pondering The Path Of My Oft Written Word (Sonnet)

Pondering the path of my oft written word,

So much of my ink reeks of despair.

Wallowing in pity and the ills of this world,

Finding negativity to be very unfair.

Feeding and nurturing causes nothing but harm,

Perpetuating sadness to a greater degree.

Raising awareness and causing alarm,

Missing the good in all that I see.

Regret fills my heart for its adverse contribution,

Changing its path is my journey of life.

Believing in love instead of divine retribution,

Destined for virtue not sorrow and strife.

Sustaining the horrors of this world denies change,

Perpetual harm and devastation does it arrange.

  1. I understand this piece quite well- – it can be used to describe my writing as of late. i went for a walk yesterday and found an adorable path – i took a picture of it – it reminds me of your first line. 🙂

    • I am finding that too much of my writing has focused on the negative whether it be in love or in life in general. This focus unfortunately perpetuates the negative instead of resolving it and I am finding it more and more distasteful. Long-term I think that it is also very unhealthy which is why I am going to try to change things a bit. 🙂 I’m very glad tat you enjoyed this piece and I did love the poem and the picture that you posted.

    • That is very true and I really am tired of it bringing me down so I am minimizing my exposure to the news and television as they only seem to make things worse. I am not putting my head in the sand, but I also don’t want to be buried by all of this negativity.

      • I stopped watching the news a long time ago. I pick and choose articles, but everything seems to be bad. It’s suffocating when all I have to sift through murders, politics, wars, death, and destruction to find anything positive.
