Sorry

I stammer to speak,

Unable to make things right,

After all I’ve done.

Cursed to suffer shortcomings

Bestowed upon me justly.

Is this destiny?

Sorry is incapable

Of healing your wounds

Inflicted by arrogance,

Bred out of my selfishness.

Calls Go Unanswered – A Tanka

Calls go unanswered

Are you not at all concerned

Like ships lost at sea

When late to arrive at port

We send out a search party

Pain

In the throng,

I spied you sitting solo,

Green of the bench,

Accenting your eyes,

You didn’t see me,

Melded into the swarm,

Sadness pooled in your eyes,

Hurt by God knows what,

I wanted to be the one,

Be the penicillin to heal you,

But it was not to be,

Pain came to comfort you,

Thrusting an arm around you,

Mopping dry your crimson stained eyes,

Hand-in-hand you strolled away,

One spartan look,

Cast over your shoulder,

You knew I was there,

Without truly knowing,

But your heart was committed to another,

Committed to Pain…

Of love.

Cold, Cold Heart – A Tanka

The gray sky, clouds hover

Looks like another snow day

Cold, harsh, unfeeling

You left me for another

Shattering my heart like ice

Criticism

Criticism,

Painful at first blush,

Until you peel away the layers,

Exposing a vulnerable core,

Where some bit of truth lies,

The abrasion is only momentary,

Shallow and unremarkable,

Healing once embraced,

Allowing growth of mind and spirit,

Reinventing that which faltered,

Strengthening all that we are.
