Racism lives on
Examples emerge daily
On the local news
Has anything really changed
Except the wall calendar

Forced into uselessness
Our society deems them a nuisance
Retiring them to the annals of history
Gone are the days they were revered
Only a culture of arrogance would discard their wisdom
Trusting instead in the coldness of technology
This is our way, leaving them out in the cold
Entombing them before their time
Never seeing beyond the length of their years

Shoulder to shoulder;
Ricocheting in pinball
Fashion…I’m alone.
Invisible to the hoard,
I am left almost breathless.
Would they notice my
absence. It seems unlikely
For such a small fish.
This sea called humanity
Shows its prey little mercy.
Swallowing it whole,
Spitting out the blood and bones,
It’s carnivorous.
Perhaps this truly is my fate
To fall victim to my fears.

Shoot first…too common
Racism alive and well
Rise of the old south
Were it not for video
The Blue Wall would have stood firm

Nature defies him

What dreams have the trees
Except to brighten this world
Seasons perfection

Buds are rays of hope
Each one a promising life
Springtime’s renewal

Labels separate
Segregation of masses
For the unknowing
Republican, democrat,
Gay, straight, rich, poor, black or white
This life and body
Are but temporary things
Gone in an instant
What is left behind
Spirit and spirit alone
Each one is the same
Void of race, creed and color
Void of all man’s influence

We drive in silence
I behind the wheel…focused
Her my passenger
Nothing needs said as we go
We just hold hands and smile
The years have joined us
Love expressed in the wordless
Ever commonplace
It is not that we don’t speak
But that our hearts beat as one
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
To sink or to swim
A choice we make every day
So what will it be
