In the dark of night
We fear what we cannot see
Praying for the dawn
~~ D. R. DiFrancesco ~~
Truth flows from the mouths of babes,
Only to be corrupted by maturity.
~~
White lies become bold faced,
Until they can no longer be differentiated.
~~
What is true and what is a lie, who knows
It becomes second nature.
~~ D. R. DiFrancesco ~~
Ire stabs at the heart,
Drawing blood,
Cuts and barbs of abhorrence,
Scarring the flesh,
Raised and angry,
Wounds won’t heal,
Relentless punishment,
Begging forgiveness is futile,
Shattered trust is rarely mendable,
Crawling through broken glass,
Is preferable to this agony,
It is not to be,
Absolution inconceivable,
Betrayal has set course,
Seeking love,
In the arms of another,
Aberrant.
~~ D. R. DiFrancesco ~~
The rose,
Petals clutched tight,
Withholds the beauty of it’s flower.
~~
Quietly she waits,
While lovers challenge for affection,
In hopes of unlocking her secrets.
~~
She does not reveal these secrets easily,
Preferring games,
Teasing those hoping to have the key.
~~
While the courtship continues,
She revels in the chaos,
Hiding what lays behind her silken robes.
~~
She is not modest,
Nor shy in spite of appearance,
Instead she is a manipulator.
~~
Prickly and pretentious,
Gladly drawing first blood,
Before confessing her undying love.
~~ D. R. DiFrancesco ~~
Blue black early morning sky,
Iridescent moon ,
Challenging the sun for relevance,
Destined to fail,
It will not retreat without a fight,
Not unlike the courageous man,
On the cusp of battle,
Facing mortality,
Willingly sacrificing himself,
In the face of imminent defeat,
All for a greater cause.
~~ D. R. DiFrancesco ~~
I hoped you’d see me for who I am,
Kind, tender, loving,
Not the image in a funhouse mirror.
~~
Twisted, distorted,
Too tall and thin, too short and fat,
Maybe a little different.
~~
Dredging up the courage,
Heart feeling ready to burst,
Dry throated I swallowed.
~~
Struggling to make a sound,
I offered my heart,
You laughed.
~~
Crushed, eyes welling with tears,
Head in hands to hide the shame,
Soulless succubus.
~~
Confidence torn to shreds,
Heart eviscerated, raised to the scorching sun,
It withered.
~~
What a fool I was,
To be so presumptuous,
That you could ever love me.
