Human Trafficking (Tanka)

Human Trafficking

The world stands by and watches

Little girls for sale

Stolen in the name of God

By hypocrites and devils

Life! What Do You Want (Tanka)

Life! What do you want

Beating me up ‘til I cry

Then knocking me down

Expecting me to thank you

How about if I refuse!

Another Month Has Passed

Another month has passed, scurrying out the door,

Rushing in tomorrow like a fire sale at the store.

What does the new offer you that the old one could not,

Nothing I can think of unless there’s something I forgot.

We wish our lives away for what we think is something better,

Until our time runs out wishing we hadn’t treated it as a fetter.

Perhaps slowing down and enjoying all that we’ve been given,

Would be a better way to appreciate this life that we’re living.

Instead of treating “now” as a prison to escape,

Because it isn’t something we can plan, design or shape.

We should wrap it in our arms holding on oh so tight,

Cherishing every moment with all our will, stamina and might.

Knowing the next second will be as precious as the past,

For the very next second may be the one that is our last.

So treasure this latest present no matter how good or how bad,

Because this one is far greater than many others may have had.

Sky–Canvas of Blue (Tanka)

Sky–canvas of blue

The sun paints with golden hues

Nothing left to chance

Perfection in its glory

Mother Nature’s finest work

Flaring of Tempers (Haiku)

Flaring of tempers

Lead to irrational acts

~~ A future regret

Bastet and Anubis (Tanka and Haiku)

Since I really enjoy writing in the haiku and tanka forms I decided to write one haiku and two tankas for the Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Heeding Haiku With HA: To Egyptian Mythology Prompt.

Anubis

Anubis

Anubis (Tanka)

Souls in transition

Under sacred watchful eyes

Do not be afraid

Anubis is guiding you

Into life everlasting

~

Anubis (Haiku)

Fear not the jackal

He is not what he appears

Anubis protects

~

Bastet

Bastet

Bastet (Tanka)

Do not fear your death

Bastet protects as armor

Securing your life

You shall not be defeated

The Great Overseer Watches

The great overseer watches,

Staring down upon the flora and fauna,

Yellow in the face,

Looming large,

Dwarfing all in his path.

Yet enormity is merely size,

It does not reveal his gentleness.

He would not crush the delicate flower,

Nor terrify beasts of the field.

He leaves no trace of where he’s been

Or where he is going when he leaves.

WIth grace and in silence he rises,

Laying his soft light upon all in his charge.

Signaling slumber for those of the day

And sounding his alarm for the nocturnal.

This is his way,

This is how he always has been.

He simply is

…The gentle giant.

Prompt: Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Photo Challenge #6 – “The Moon Garden”, Photo by Oloriel

To Arise Before Sun-up

To arise before sun-up,

A ritual held for many a year.

Watching the sun breach the horizon and erupt,

One that many find most queer.

~

The silence treasured,

As the bird snores its song.

The days birth measured,

As its hours plod along.

~

Brewing coffee ever so lightly fills the air,

From the window perch dawns light grows.

Soundlessly showing the utmost care,

Slumber reigns majestic as solitude shows.

~

Morning…oh blessed morning what have you to say?

Good morning perhaps as it always has done.

There cannot, must not be any other way,

Than to start the day anew as it has always begun.

Poetry Prompt: We Drink Because We’re Poets – Poetry Prompt #8 – Morning

I Partake Not In Another’s Squabbles (Sonnet)

I partake not in another’s squabbles, their concern is not my own,

Taking sides bears nothing but rotten fruit on the vine.

Picking winners and losers in life is futile as history has shown,

Their issues with one another is between them, not mine.

~

Should we not let bygones-be-bygones to follow their dreams,

It is not our place to be both jury and judge.

What is surely right for me may not be for another it seems,

On this I stand firmly refusing to budge.

~

Though in freedom of speech I wholeheartedly believe,

There are times we would be better to sit in silence.

Sometimes speaking your mind provides little to achieve,

And may lead to physical and mental violence.

~

So choose your words carefully though speaking is your right,

For offense so easily levied can lead to an unwinnable fight.

Do You Live To Dream (Tanka)

Do you live to dream

Never feeling life’s fullness

Is this what you want

To waste the time you have here

Missing all that life offers
