War Damages More Than Earth And Enemy

War damages more than earth and enemy.

Its scars not always visible disfigure,

Taking more than life and limb.

Those once docile and kind seethe with anger

Tearing family, home and heart to shreds.

Longing to coddle the child we once knew

We only serve to alienate.

As a result we remain silent,

Helpless against the inner demons that torment.

We pray they make it back home in one piece,

Yet coming to terms with that which we cannot see

…There is now way to prepare for.

Lost Amongst Chaos

Lost amongst chaos

Something had to change quickly

To keep sanity

In the quiet dark I sat

Alone with only my thoughts

Finally peace knocked

Begging me to let her in

A most welcome friend

Come home to roost for a time

I just hope she plans to stay

A Frantic Blur

Aldgate to Liverpool Street by Caroline Hall

Aldgate to Liverpool Street by Caroline Hall

A frantic blur,

The speed of life,

My mind a slur,

Full of stress and strife.

~

Like a fast moving train,

While staring straight,

Outrunning the brain,

Leaves a confused state.

~

Hustle and bustle obscure our view,

With too many things on our plate,

Clouding our judgement the mind is confused,

Chaos will result as our fate.

~

Slow down the pace or surely implode,

As our bodies are drained of their senses,

Or even worse yet our heads may explode,

Evicting the stress it dispenses.

~

What would result if we choose not to comply,

Our health and sanity will suffer,

Leaving our body and mind here to die,

From which we can never recover.

Prompt: Jerermy’s Daily Challenge – Picture This Monday 21 April

Anxieties Hold (Tanka)

Anxieties hold

Plunging headlong in darkness

Of my own doing

Tending to over-think things

Can only bring me trouble

What is the Cost

What is the cost of kindness, love, compassion,

Nothing and everything I propose.

No monetary value do they hold.

They cannot be bought or sold as livestock.

They are invisible, but for their gestures.

This by no means diminishes their value.

Priceless are they above the grandest diamond,

But do not be fooled,

They most surely take ravenously as does the thief.

Taking stress and casting it into the wind,

Taking hate and smothering it until breathless,

Taking selfishness and warming it with empathy.

Nothing but good can come of these

Yet we find them most difficult to freely offer.

How much improved would this world be,

For all that we sow we reap

Either in this life or the next.

Separate Lives Together

We live,

Separate lives together.

Sharing a roof,

A bed.

Lying back to back.

Void of touch,

Good night

Whispered to an old friend,

Settling for the mundane.

Waking hours,

Life lived apart,

Turmoil of the day,

Work, stress, aggravation,

Too tired to talk.

Meals,

Separate ends of the couch,

Silence for company.

Clink of fork and knife,

White noise,

Breaking tense solitude.

Grown apart,

Here for convenience,

Home, cars, bills, children.

Chains,

Anchors to this hell,

Repetitive, repulsive, depressing,

Loneliness consumes,

Leaving no way out,

Stuck,

In separate lives…

Together.

Past, Present, Future

What a weighty beast this animal regret,

Overshadowing the contemporary with antiquity,

For what purpose but to depress.

This concept of past, present, future inequity.

Each fleeting second paints our past,

Never ending, unavoidable, unchangeable

Causing distress and unhappiness if permitted.

Future bears no less weight,

Harboring angst in it’s face…unknown.

To what end, fear, hesitance, isolation.

No one can foretell what challenges lay ahead,

Destiny is what it will be,

Beyond mortal knowledge and control.

Remaining is present, here and now.

Over this deviant only, do we have influence,

Choice…free will, holds dominant sway.

Present is ours to sculpt into a masterpiece;

Then, in an unfathomable moment it fades into past

Never to be relived, redone, reconsidered.

Energies expended on present are well spent,

Are obtainable, conceivable, justifiable.

Past and future serve only to bleed us;

Sapping mind, body and spirit.

Let present feed the future

And bury the past.

Silly Boys and Girls

Silly boys, they laugh and they giggle,

Silly girls in their skirts they do wiggle.

The girls laugh and point at the giggling boys,

As they make funny noises playing with their toys.

The girls turn away when they see the boys gawk,

The boys chase the girls with the speed of a hawk.

The boys yell and taunt as the girls run away,

The girls round the schoolyard away from them they stay.

Huffing and puffing the boys give up chase,

The girls in their stocking feet ran away with the race.

The boys and the girls in playgrounds and yards,

Laughing and singing, life was not hard.

This innocence squandered to the aging of youth,

Maybe in children we adults can find our lost truth.

Wouldn’t this be such wonderful thing,

Removing from stress, it’s life zapping sting.

There’s much we can learn from our children at play,

Like how to have fun each and every day.
