Taste of Blame (Sonnet)

Bitter and nauseating is the taste of blame

Often stirred by our misguided spirit–ego.

Detesting others with fortune and fame

Until ones jealousy doth flourishing, grows.

.

Little good does it serve to another accuse;

Rotting heart and soul to the core.

Resulting in pain and the minds terrible abuse,

Living in darkness ‘til every fiber doth abhor.

.

Does harboring this envy, one deadly sin

Heal what you view as improper nay unjust?

This frailty so human caused all ills begin

Diminishing our ability to trust.

.

What profit can be gained from hatred ingrained,

But to torture our souls until loves power doth refrain.

Fear-mongering And Terror

Fear-mongering and terror

Spouted from the hallowed halls.

Worry not they shout,

We are here to protect you,

We know better than you,

We know the dangers.

Think…

At what cost?

They ask us to trust them,

Give us just a little they say,

Just a touch of your freedom.

It’s for a noble cause!

We only need it for a short while.

Like fools we consent;

Placating us under their umbrella of protection.

With each fearful rant they ask for more.

See how we kept you safe,

Nothing has happened,

But they are out there

Waiting to pounce,

They want you dead!

Asking one more for ounce of our liberty;

We gladly give it with a relieved smile.

Rumors of anxiety and dread persist,

Appeals subside,

They won’t know,

Devouring our freedoms under cover of darkness.

Alphabet soup can keep it hidden,

NSA, CIA, FBI and the rest.

Considering us ignorant and weak.

Reading our mail,

Listening to our most intimate calls,

Perusing out texts,

Nothing is private,

Nothing is sacred,

Our lives, open books for their amusement.

I ask you…

Who are the terrorists now

And who are the lambs?

Our way of life is eroding,

Just as the oligarchy has long-planned.

Extremists can sit back and watch,

As we surrender our greatness,

Under a cloud of fear,

Never having to fire another shot.

Blind To Whats Ahead – A Tanka

Blind to what’s ahead

We fail to trust our instincts

Leaving us exposed

Like flesh bare to noonday sun

Too late once burned and blistered

Unfaithful Lover – A Haiku

Nerves, raw and exposed

Torn asunder by deceit

Unfaithful lover

Suffocation – A Tanka

Your blanket of lies

Pulled tightly around my head

Suffocating trust

Killing, what I thought we shared

Sun, moon and the air we breathe

~~ D. R, DiFrancesco ~~

Aberrant

Ire stabs at the heart,

Drawing blood,

Cuts and barbs of abhorrence,

Scarring the flesh,

Raised and angry,

Wounds won’t heal,

Relentless punishment,

Begging forgiveness is futile,

Shattered trust is rarely mendable,

Crawling through broken glass,

Is preferable to this agony,

It is not to be,

Absolution inconceivable,

Betrayal has set course,

Seeking love,

In the arms of another,

Aberrant.

River’s Run

By D. R. DiFrancesco

The river wails in excitement as it reaches the precipice

Morphing into an effervescent shower of God’s tears

Crashing helplessly on the rocks below

The river never trembles

Never hesitates

Never endeavors to postpone it’s end

Instead it marches headlong into the unrevealed

On to a destiny known only to the maker

What a wonderous life it must lead

Concerned not with it’s fate

Content that it has traveled the determined path

Only to be reborn as a bountiful gift from Heaven

The Optimist – Haiku

Glass half full

~~

In trust we find peace,

Rushing in optimism,

So to bathe in joy.

 ~~

A song in the heart,

Shared with those longing for love,

Betters our world.

~~

Be not critical,

For it suites the pessimist,

Leaving them sour.
