Emotions cast out
Like a net upon the sea
Unexpectedly
Take on a life of their own
Spiraling out of control

To lay in the tall grass
Soaking up summer sun,
I recall a time so much simpler than today,
Carefree, up at dawn, out, exploring,
Seeking out new worlds, new adventures.
Calls for lunch went unheeded,
There just wasn’t the time.
Mother knew, mother always knew
This was part of the plan.
Friends and imagination consumed,
My world for the taking,
King, conqueror, soldier
How I long for those days.
Today kings become tyrants,
Conquerors commit genocide
And soldiers really die.
Games of youth were just silly fun,
There were no consequences,
There was no death, no tyranny.
At the end of the day we’d shake hands,
Smile and run home for dinner,
Dreaming of tomorrow,
Dreaming of our next conquest
From the safety of our beds.

To sit in judgement
Of what lives in other’s minds
Is best left to God
For without omnipotence
Who am I to throw a stone

Anger taints the mind
Blocking mirrors reflection
Disguised perfection

I live life walking amongst the masses
Seeing stories in every face,
In every wrinkle, smile, frown,
In every scar and freckle,
Real or imagined they speak to me.
Their silence, writing volumes,
Horror, action, romance, fact, fiction,
Genre’–It is for me to decide,
Bending reality into a thing of make believe.
My entertainment is paramount,
Turning the commonplace to adventure,
Breathing life into the mundane.
This is the art, the medium unimportant,
Though mine is of the word.
Looking in the mirror
You could not possibly see what I see,
For it lives only in my mind
Until it boils over onto paper.

Jem Farmer the boi poet – Monday Masterpiece prompt – 19 August 2013
Unabashedly wearing the coat of kings
And the rags of paupers
Proud of each one equally
With breast puffed and head held high
You make no apologies for your patchwork
Granted by the gods, it is worn with honor
Defining and making you unique
A Phoenix with an unassuming plume

Clapboard once vibrant
Fell on the hardest of times
Fragile heart revealed

Caution thrown windward
Broadens stagnant horizons
Sown by hesitance
Turning mediocrity
Into lifelong adventure

I question God;
Not the existence of,
But the singularity of his being.
Might We not be God I ask,
Creators of this world, this reality;
All of us, the collective,
Our spirits, our hearts, our souls
Forming order out of this presumed chaos,
Though perhaps it is not chaos at all,
Rather a mysterious perfection.
It diminishes not our desire for God
Nor should it be thrown into oblivions pit.
Instead it should be sought after with fervor.
Where though, lies the question.
Religion begs us to look towards the heavens,
Drawing truth from books transcribing God through man,
Placing faith in idols and symbols,
Traveling down another’s path,
Still answers are as void as those of the godless.
Perhaps our quest has been misguided,
Perhaps we have been intimate with God all along
But did not recognize him when spoken too.
Blinded by our perceptions of the outside reality,
Ignorant to our inside spirituality for fear of damnation,
We look for what we already may already have…
I ask, couldn’t we be God?
