What Defines Genius (Tanka)

What defines genius
Insanity on steroids
Or simply a gift
Perhaps it is some of each
With which we’ve all been endowed

A Ghostly Apparition (Sonnet)

A ghostly apparition on shoreline I spied,

Pacing to and fro through deep hours of night.

I thought from my window I captured her cry

From what must have been a terrible fright.

Dressed all in white from an era long gone

Stream of tears from my eyes I did shed.

Distress in her step and the pipers last song

This lover to her death must’ve led.

Legend exists of a star-crossed romance

Ending in the most tragic of ways.

They claim it occurred by strange circumstance

Young lovers they drowned in the bay.

When the shock finally passed nothing, but sorrow did I feel

There was nothing I could offer for her wounds I could not heal.

Strained Parental Love (Tanka)

Strained parental love
Clashing personalities
Mother and daughter
One lashing out in anger
Are they just too much alike

Winter’s Reaper Stuck (Haiku)

Winter’s reaper struck

Cutting a swath through great lands

~~ Glazed in frozen death

The Circle

The circle,

Crimson hooded,

Black robed wickens of sorts.

Dancing around the dead,

Salivating in anticipation,

A feast of flesh and bones.

No ill will did they harbor,

Nor wish for victims demise;

Fate granted them favor.

Not at Satan’s command,

This is their nature.

Despised by the living

As a filthy wretched horde,

Outcasts of nature

Though their purpose is divine.

They are mocked and ridiculed,

Loathed and feared,

Still they offer back to the earth

What the earth has taken.

The vulture’s cry–

A lonesome song.

Treated as lepers of the sky,

Precious are they…

In the natural chain.

Bread, Milk, Stocked Pantry (Tanka)

Bread, milk, stocked pantry

Protection from arctic cold

Taken for granted

No comfort to the homeless

Freezing and dying alone

A Child’s Blank Stare (Haiku)

A child’s blank stare
Living a life undeserved

This Road

This road,

Long,

Winding,

Uncharted,

Devoid of footsteps.

I am a trailblazer,

Adventurer,

Explorer,

Magellan.

I am a father,

Husband,

Friend,

Lover.

I am a fighter,

A force of nature,

Brutal in defense of those I love,

Unrelenting.

I am kind,

Generous,

Sympathetic,

Compassionate.

I am living,

Doing the best I can,

Grateful for all I have,

Hopeful for all that I want,

This is the life journey I must walk alone.

Astounding (Sonnet)

Astounding are those that look for reasons to be unhappy,

Conspiracy theories, news of the day meant to depress.

Written to convince of their literal trappings,

Our joy these words are designed to suppress.

These fools like sponges absorb utter nonsense,

Wringing out their bile in attempts to bait.

To the logical man these issues make no sense,

How much clearer must I say it, so not to restate.

Misery loves company as the old saying goes,

If willing to engage in this game.

An illness instilling more harm than will show,

On all but yourself you will blame.

Let not the lure of negativity entice you, destructive to the mind in the end,

Look for what’s positive it will surely enrich you, your body and soul it shall mend.
