This journey followed
One created for myself
Existed within me
Born before my date of birth
In the universal mind

Rising from despair
To find solace in living
As part of this world
Vital as air and water
The creator of my fate

The pain of loss doth help one grow,
Though for a time a seeming lie.
— A truth of life one surely knows
The pain of loss doth help one grow,
In time tears departed surely show,
That living breaks deaths scheming lie
The pain of loss doth help one grow,
Though for a time a seeming lie?

AUTHORS NOTE: I thought I would give a new (old) form of poetry a try. This form is called a triolet and dates back to 13th century France.
This journey,
One traveled by us and all that came before,
Has been paved with blood,
Watered with sweat,
Graded with pain,
Sprinkled with joy;
This road is the only one we know.
Although different obstacles may impede our way,
Cause one to stumble while another may fall
And allow another to wander a street paved with gold,
This road must begin at our beginning
And end at our ending regardless of effort,
Caring not how long it takes
Or what treasures we collect along the way.
Our intention alone is to live well in this, our reality.

Buried within me
I found what I thought I’d lost
A love for myself
Long hidden by a facade
The time has come for release

Click, clack
Sound of wheels on steel track.
It’s passengers seated and sideboard hanging,
Drawing in closely to avoid shoulder banging.
Laughing and smiling as hills fall and rise,
Joy of the children as they stare with eyes wide.
This slow moving coaster, it navigates with ease,
Tourist and locals, all does it please.
One low fare takes you beginning to end,
As seen in the movies, I would do it again.
The cable cars roll through picturesque streets,
Shops and restaurants prove such unexpected treats.
Mixing worldly cultures all living as one,
A city composed of diverse brethren.
This beautiful city a diamond on the bay,
Visitor or immigrant so many have stayed.
Whether riding the rails, up and down dip,
Or walking the streets, such a glorious trip.

Time for making time
To do the things that one loves
What ever that is
Like the wick of a candle
Whose end burns ever closer

Silence deafening
Alone with my thoughts of you
Tormenting my soul
Will loneliness be my fate
Led by love’s vicious blindness

Trying to believe
Innocent of the murder
Seems implausible
This was the jury’s verdict
Too bad the dead cannot talk

I was once asked,
“When death stares you in the face what will you say?”
I pondered and sighed and smiled a smile I could not erase.
Thank you…
That was my answer,
Thank you for my life,
It has been full.
Thank you for my wife,
My lover,
My partner,
My children,
Thank you for every sunrise,
Every sunset,
Every shooting star in the heavens,
Thank you for all the love,
The sadness,
The joys,
The pain,
I couldn’t have gotten on without you.
These are but a simple few of all for which I’d give thanks.
Of all that I am thankful for, I am most thankful for time,
Not for how much or how little,
But thank you for the time that I had in this beautiful tortured world,
Amongst those I love,
And those that loved me.
For these I am most thankful.
