A heart of crystal
Once brought into the light
Cannot be snuffed out,
…Its love shines eternal.

To those gone without a trace,
What were your last thoughts?
What did you see?
What did you here?
To the Atheists, did you find God?
To the Christians, did you ask Christ to save you?
To the Muslims, did Allah forgive you your sins?
This is not an indictment,
I would asked for all of this and so much more.
Did you feel abandoned?
Did your life flash before your eyes?
Did you see the faces of loved ones?
Did you hear the laughter of your children?
Surely I would have felt all of these things.
These questions bring me to tears.
I don’t know what I would think as I sat helpless,
And in the end would it really matter
In the face of impending doom?
These answers float on the wind,
And drift with the changing tides,
In places without names, undiscovered.
Know that wherever you are,
We think about you,
Hoping that your final rest is in peace.
Lost at sea.

Gazing up at the stars too numerous to count,
I wonder…am I alone in this universe,
But how could I be alone in this great vastness?
How many planets are out there,
Invisible to the naked eye,
Invisible to the most powerful of human invention?
What wondrous life must surely exist
Somewhere under these uncharted atmospheres,
Somewhere beyond our mortal senses.
Only our own arrogance could blind us to the possibility,
That we are not solitary creatures.
For now, dreams of faraway places will have to suffice,
Living in my vivid imagination
Until proof can be delivered by the skeptics.

Such a strange world,
Surrounded by creatures small and smaller.
Into this place I’ve been hurled
Though still many times taller.
This is such an odd little place
Where I’m the the center of attention.
Creatures circle, fly and leave without a trace,
Still I’m not sure what’s their intention.
Very still I choose to sit,
Holding a statuesque pose.
Afraid if I twitch or flit,
They may bite my delicate nose.
Or scratch my ivory skin,
Turning snow white to bloody red,
Maybe kick me in the shins,
By god, I look almost dead.
Then suddenly a boom,
To the sound of thunder I awake.
Lying on the floor of my room,
Tell me–how much acid did I take.

Looking down from the mountain
The lush valley below obscured,
Embraced by a sheet of ecru.
Stepping out for a breath of fresh air is a farce.
From below virtually unnoticeable,
Looking up all you can see is blue,
But the lungs know,
The eyes know,
The putrid smell gives it away.
How much more vivid would the sky be;
How much sweeter would the air be
Were it not for this festering cloud.
We are poisoned in the name of progress,
Bleeding the life blood from ourselves and our children.
So to leave the material as our legacy,
All the while destroying what is truly important
…Our planet.

Simple song
That no one can hear
In my heart
Bringing joy
And a fullness to this life
That no other can

The chase is on!
With spring comes fresh meat after the long cold winter.
Antelope, deer plentiful on the plains–sustain us;
Feeding our women and children,
Keeping us strong as we hunt and gather.
This is our way,
This is how it has always been.
We hunt, taking only what we need
Leaving thriving herds for those that may follow.
Traveling north to escape the heat of approaching summer
We thank the gods for our bounty,
Praise our ancestors for imparting their knowledge,
Blessing the earth for her plenty.
Sending the souls of our prey onward
To the great hunting ground in the sky.
This we record for future generations,
That they may respect the land
Entrusted to them by their fathers
…And their fathers before them.

Prompted by Jeremy’s Daily Challenge – Picture This Monday 14 April
Slowly–we are drowning
Under the weight of our own pomposity
Foolishly choking our humanity with laws
Failing to realize our divinity
Overcompensating
Could we not, would we not, if…
Allowed to live as we were designed
Think for ourselves
Ending domination by the oligarchy
Determining our own intention

The soul while on earth struggles in the stairwell,
Longing to climb to heavenly heights.
This pursuit, no matter how noble and well intentioned
Does not come without warning.
Do not squander this life, nor disjoint from the Creator,
Whomever you hold that deity to be.
For surely you will suffer in the fires of hell
Which the devil’s bellow hath stoked.
Instead follow the avenue both straight and narrow,
For you are the seed planted in the furrow,
Not by accident, but by design to flourish.
Though I know you salivate to touch eternity,
All consumed by the promise of this lyrical dream,
You are here to make a difference,
To create, to fulfill the promise
…of your divine birth.
