Bitterest Of Pills

Bitterest of pills

I swallowed without consent

And now I’m choking.

With every day that passes

I pray for civility

Only to suffer

The pains of disappointment.

Will I ever learn…

I doubt that I ever will,

But there’s no harm in hoping.

Trying to temper

My passion for politics,

Where lies don’t matter,

Compassion signals weakness

And right and left never meet.

Coolness Of Morning

Coolness of morning

Dew envelops everything

Rain clouds have stormed off

Our Collective Soul

Our collective soul

Lies buried in the rubble

Of hate, greed and lies.

One day we will rise from ash

Like the fiery Phoenix.

Enlightened, wiser,

Perhaps we will see we’re one,

Made of flesh and bone.

How sad that we must suffer

Before we open our eyes.

Living Peacefully

Living peacefully

In sync with nature’s beauty

Fulfilled without cost

It Was Funny Once

It was funny once,

But it isn’t funny now;

Personal attacks.

Congratulations! We are

The laughing-stock of the world.

Trying to look tough

We’ve made ourselves look foolish.

Racism and hate,

Islamophobia, greed,

We are an embarrassment.

This is uncalled for!

Leaders of the free world

Do not act this way.

Hop back into your clown

Cars and rejoin your circus.

Expecting The Worst

Expecting the worst

Only breeds anxiety

Learn to face your fears

Stench Of Urine

Stench of urine,

Cardboard shacks,

Shopping carts,

Tattered clothes,

Hand-me-downs from the dumpster I suppose.

Rummaging through waste baskets,

Feasting on tainted food scraps,

Hiding in the shadows,

Sleeping on steam grates,

Misused,

Abused,

Something less than human.

Left for dead in the cold,

Filth in the form of flesh and blood,

But have you ever looked into their eyes,

Heard their hearts beat,

Seen them cry,

Gasp for their final breath?

I’m sure you haven’t

As you stepped over their broken bodies,

Avoiding them like the plague,

Chuckling at their despair,

On your way to your comfortable life.

Can’t you take a moment to lend a hand,

A little food,

A little shelter,

A bit of cash,

Instead of treating them like lepers,

Feeding off teets of the man..

You don’t know them,

You don’t know their stories,

Their hardships,

Their tragedies,

But you should…

They are our brothers and sister after all.

It Isn’t My Place

It isn’t my place

To impose judgement on you

I am not perfect

.

My flaws glisten in the sun

Like a mirror to my soul

In your happiness

I find the purest of joys

With love, your father

Community

Comradery of souls

Offered without pretense;

More could not be asked for

Making the cause all the more special.

Unity of purpose unites

Nailing hearts and minds to a common cross,

Instilling strength to carry on the fight.

Though hardship and hatred will try to stifle,

Yearning for understanding and equality can never be silenced.
