Travelers (Shadorma)

Stairs

Stairs

Travelers

On a worn stairway

Toward Heaven

Redemption

On the narrowest of paths

One step at a time

Stumbling

We grab the handrails

Looking up

As we climb

Hope of reward at the end

Is what we pray for

Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Shadorma Photo Prompt #8

The Sun Still Rose

The sun still rose as I knew it would,

The birds sang their songs,

The winds blew strong,

The grass remained green just as it should.

In dawns dim light I opened my eyes,

My wife lay sleeping by my side,

My children in the next rooms reside,

All of these cause joy in my heart to rise.

The waters flow cooling parched earth,

The skies still a brilliant shade of blue,

The flowers bloom as they always do,

These more valuable than material worth.

Life continues like every other day,

As it has O’ these fifty years on,

Caring not the least as each new day dawns,

For it knows no other way.

I guess I’m just part of this natural flow,

Arriving then passing with time,

Like the bird and the beast and the tree and the vine,

I’ll receive my calling to go.

Each Tick Of The Clock (Tanka)

Each tick of the clock

Signifies a new “present”

No past, no future

There is only this moment

Why not make the most of it

Sticks And Stones

Sticks and stones may break one’s bones,

But words most certainly hurt.

Bones do heal as time has shown,

While words eternal pain can exert.

Some will use age as a valid excuse

For exhibition of poor behavior.

Even if you were some eccentric recluse,

This still wouldn’t serve as your savior.

All the money in this world does not buy you the right

To treat others as something less human.

On judgement day you will see the shortness of sight,

And your legacy will be seeking absolution.

Your racism only serves to sever the bonds

You should have with your sisters and brothers.

Claiming foul play when they choose to respond,

Treating them not as friends, but as others.

Bury your head in the proverbial sand,

Denying your views are archaic.

You won’t get away with the slap of a hand,

For in hate and prejudice you partake.

You’d think that these words would have long ago past

Into the annals of far ancient history.

Yet time and again they rear their ugly heads,

Why to me remains an elusive mystery.

Let bygone-be-bygones aren’t we one and the same,

Dealing with the hand we’ve been given.

Helping one another is the name of the game,

To live in love in this life that we’re living.

Do You Live To Dream (Tanka)

Do you live to dream

Never feeling life’s fullness

Is this what you want

To waste the time you have here

Missing all that life offers

I’m Not My Body

I’m not my body.

It’s nothing but a flesh vase

Holding the real me.

The me that was before this,

The me not of this world,

The me of spirit.

Who I was before my birth;

Nothing but essence,

Not created or destroyed,

The me of eternity.

Judge, Jury, Executioner

Judge, jury, executioner,

We decide the fate of the smallest of lives,

Crickets, mice, the common house fly, the family pet

Playing god with those we deem less significant.

Who handed us the gavel?

Who gave us the plunger of the lethal injection?

Who gave us the power to determine when a life will end?

We dole out this punishment with little thought

All because we call them pests

Or we don’t want them to needlessly suffer,

But this is not our role in this world.

Shouldn’t we allow them to transition in their own time?

We all have a time,

You, me, the cricket, them mouse, the house fly, the family pet,

One that will bring the end with or without intervention,

Though not determined by our hands.

…The sanctity of life.

Simple Song (Shadorma)

Simple song

That no one can hear

In my heart

Bringing joy

And a fullness to this life

That no other can

The Soul While on Earth

The soul while on earth struggles in the stairwell,

Longing to climb to heavenly heights.

This pursuit, no matter how noble and well intentioned

Does not come without warning.

Do not squander this life, nor disjoint from the Creator,

Whomever you hold that deity to be.

For surely you will suffer in the fires of hell

Which the devil’s bellow hath stoked.

Instead follow the avenue both straight and narrow,

For you are the seed planted in the furrow,

Not by accident, but by design to flourish.

Though I know you salivate to touch eternity,

All consumed by the promise of this lyrical dream,

You are here to make a difference,

To create, to fulfill the promise

…of your divine birth.

Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Wordle #4 Writing Prompt

Birth is All Around Us

Birth is all around us;

In everything,

Every blade of grass,

Chirp of baby birds newly hatched,

Tiny flowers submitting to their nature to be fruit,

The covey of quail scurrying single file,

Rise of the sun upon a new day,

Winter welcoming the spring,

Barren branches bursting with cool green leaves,

April rains coaxing wildflowers from nothing,

Parks full of strollers and carriages,

Toddlers laughter filling the air,

Earth and sky warming.

Birth is all around us,

In everything,

Wondrous!
