Sweet revenge corrupts
Polluting body and soul
Leaving you hollow
Inconsolable regret
Will become your lifelong friend

Painful as it is
We face our mortality
In all that we do.
Just waking up to morning,
Walking a city sidewalk,
On a holiday,
Swimming on a summers day;
The fullness of life
By virtue of our living
Must eventually end.
Do not waste this time
Wallowing in past regrets;
Leave that to the fool.
Instead cherish each moment
For its utter perfection.

I’ve waited too long
Spending life running the wheel
Like a fearful mouse
Missing the joy of their youth
My children are now adults

Torrential storm of random events
Beyond control your mood doth set
Thrusting outward in time repents
A heart in sorrow, forgiveness gets
~
I know not why I shelter inside
Negativity of others inside my mind
Or what I create I cannot hide
Instead of release ‘til death do bind
~
Should not happiness instill us all
Casting out that beyond control
Living in joy postpone bearer’s pall
Before its too late to corpse console
~
Random events are as they say
No path nor end hath fate defined
Life as we make and live this day
Should not be treated as a grind
~
Up to us all, our inner smile
Nourish and nurture to heart’s desire
Striving to best our every trial
Patiently dousing our temper’s fire
~
Easier said, more difficult to do
In this life we live on lease
Being as one with nature wrings true
Thriving and resting in peace

The mind of the heart
Travels the road it’s chosen
Ne’er second guessing
For the act of questioning
Would only lead to regret

Sentimentality and longing–drowning
In a sea of what was.
Knowing that one can never go back
To childhood,
To before grandma died,
Before the loss of grandpa,
Before any of the idiotic decisions we make
During the folly of our youth and beyond.
The impossibility of this is obvious;
Time only marches forward,
Steady and resolute in its determination.
Leaving us, if we choose to stay,
in the dust and cobwebs of our past.
One must ask, “To what end?”
To be passed…
By opportunities for love,
The love of family,
All the good that life has to offer.
A life of misery,
A life of hoping for what was,
What can never be,
This is the fate of so many.
Living in sorrow, void of hope,
Void of happiness,
Drowning–in sentimentality and longing.

In the audience
I watch this worldly play
With tears in my eyes
A tragedy unfolding
WIthout an intermission

No time do I have for sadness,
No time for fear,
No time for what was,
No time for what should have been,
No time for what could have been,
Its all I can do to handle today,
To prepare for tomorrow,
To do better,
Be better than I was yesterday.
Anything else diminishes me.

Abandon your fears
Scatter caution to the wind
For you only have one chance
A life lived in certainty
Will end in disappointment

What a weighty beast this animal regret,
Overshadowing the contemporary with antiquity,
For what purpose but to depress.
This concept of past, present, future inequity.
Each fleeting second paints our past,
Never ending, unavoidable, unchangeable
Causing distress and unhappiness if permitted.
Future bears no less weight,
Harboring angst in it’s face…unknown.
To what end, fear, hesitance, isolation.
No one can foretell what challenges lay ahead,
Destiny is what it will be,
Beyond mortal knowledge and control.
Remaining is present, here and now.
Over this deviant only, do we have influence,
Choice…free will, holds dominant sway.
Present is ours to sculpt into a masterpiece;
Then, in an unfathomable moment it fades into past
Never to be relived, redone, reconsidered.
Energies expended on present are well spent,
Are obtainable, conceivable, justifiable.
Past and future serve only to bleed us;
Sapping mind, body and spirit.
Let present feed the future
And bury the past.
