In Utter Sadness (Tanka)

In utter sadness

I drown among presumed friends

Only to be shocked

When their masks have been cast off

And their true colors revealed

~

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Venture Into This World (Sonnet)

Venture into this world with a free and open mind

Let not negativity toward spirit corrupt

As the old saying goes “Seek and ye shall find”

Push onward and never give up

.

This world–an oyster–is yours to discover

The wonders and mysteries await

Secrets yet unknown are yours to uncover

As curiosity and passion conflate

.

Do not ever doubt your pureness of heart

Or your ability to achieve in this world

There is so much ahead before time to depart

Let this tapestry of life be unfurled

.

If ever you feel that you’re mired and afraid

Know I’m here, through your successes I’m repaid

.

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Love Comes With Wrath of Thorn (Sonnet)

Love comes with wrath of thorn

When hearts betrayed the beautiful rose

Comfort breeds the birth of scorn

Passion cools, its numbness shows

.

O’ fair, my fairest bloom

Fear not that my love has waned

All is not lost nor cloaked in gloom

Seeing you troubled has caused me pain

.

I promise dear love to right my way

Intent not given with thought of malice

Blind to signs of that which holds sway

To raise you back up to throne and palace

.

Time hath made loves flames grow tepid

I vow to weave our hearts beat threaded

.

Sweet Revenge Corrupts (Tanka)

Sweet revenge corrupts

Polluting body and soul

Leaving you hollow

Inconsolable regret

Will become your lifelong friend

~

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Will Work For Food (Sonnet)

Will work for food, the sign they show

Please help a vet down on his luck

Diverting their eyes the passersby go

Life on the street a vicious cycle they’re stuck

~

Hey there mister can you spare a dime

Or maybe a buck to try to get home

Would it be possible to give me some time

We’re so tired of being in the cold all alone

~

We could be your sisters and your brothers

We used to have jobs, families and homes

We could be your fathers and your mothers

Hungry and weary, nothing but skin and bones

~

Obligated as humans should we be one to another

Practicing what we preach by seeing to the needs of the other

.

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Time Doth Heal All Wounds (Haiku)

Time doth heal all wounds

So the unenlightened claim

Scars are permanent

~

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

How Wondrous this World

How wondrous this world

Lost among our modern distractions

Beauty of the mountains

Joy in the raging rivers

Mystery of the oceans

Lushness of our forests

Cast aside by youth out of boredom

Zion, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon,

Great Lakes, Salt Lake, Crater Lake,

Giant Redwoods, Joshua Trees, dwarf pines,

Nothing but passing scenery

Have we truly progressed

Ignoring that from which we came

That to which we will someday return

How wondrous is this world

Some of us will never know

.

What is Thanksgiving

What is Thanksgiving

Nothing but Black Friday Eve

Prelude to Christmas

Our culture sold for profit

Our history up for grabs

We’ve become hollow

Freely giving up our souls

To the next slick ad

Our materialism

What does this say about us

~

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Chill (Tanka)

Chill…Rustle of trees

Winter is fast approaching

Usher in the dead season

Like the cycle of our lives

One dies another is born
