Harbor No Ill Will (Tanka)

Harbor no ill will

Make friends of your enemies

Though unnatural

Forgiveness is essential

To live a spirit filled life

So easy to say

In the right circumstances

Though hard to commit

Once anger has taken hold

Breathe deeply and let it go

Do You Fear Silence

Do you fear silence?

Does the absence of voice scare you?

Do you hide behind white noise?

Do you seek shelter in the arms of music?

Do you try to drown it out with television?

What are you afraid of?

Is it that perhaps your inner voice might speak,

That the Divine might make its presence known,

That you might see into the darkest recesses of your soul

Or is it that you might come to realize that there is more out there

Than what our mortal senses reveal.

There is nothing to fear dear one;

Embrace the quiet,

Look within for the answers you seek,

Call upon the Divine for guidance,

Wrap yourself in peace and love

And know that in silence

…There is wisdom.

So Demanding

So demanding, so selfish,

Looking out for “me” and me alone.

Didn’t your mother tell you,

Play nice and share.

When denied–anger rages,

Desires, like flames burn.

When left unchecked

Humanity suffers;

Feeding materialism,

Hunger for power,

Loss of compassion.

There is no peace,

Thirst cannot be quenched,

Enough is never enough

Needing ever more to survive.

Without spirit

The monster is revealed.

Without love and compassion

The host becomes a shell

Succumbing to the alter.

Tyrants and despots

Know this far too well.

Do not fall victim to this knave

For the path can lead to darkness.

You are the master–

Demand subservience

As if your soul depends on it

From the spoiled child,

…Ego.

Humanities Walk

Humanities walk

Either joyful or a drudge

The choice of each soul

Living in the past

Wallowing in self-pity

Brings only despair

Drawing one into the blackness

Making the light of hope dim

Look at the present

Be thankful for all you have

See only the good

This will enrich your whole life

And grant you abundant peace

Blue Skies And Fair Winds (Senryu)

Blue skies and fair winds

Pure harmony of nature

A lesson to learn

Without Gratitude (Tanka)

Without gratitude

Expecting seems like folly

Disastrous mix

One day they will awaken

And all they had will be gone

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Though This Shell Withers

Though this shell withers

Returning to whence it came

I shall never die

Time cannot kill the spirit

For the spirit’s always been

It is eternal

Without substance to hinder

Therefore unrestrained

In this I take great comfort

That there is–eternal life

A Kaleidoscope

A kaleidoscope

Colors of the rainbow

Ever changing.

Each twist a new pattern.

Pointed toward the light…

More vibrant are its wonders

While darkness…

Depresses its beauty

Leaving it muted and bland.

Such is the life of man.

Each moment…

A twist of the kaleidoscope

New and fresh.

Vibrant when lived in the light,

Depressing and deadly

When lived in darkness.

How easy it is to wallow,

Rotting from the blackness in life

If one is consumed,

When the light and love

Is well within reach

…If one chooses to grasp it.
