A New Day Begins

A new day begins,

Mine to make of as I please

Or let swallow me.

To live or die at its hand–

My only care in this world.

What choice should I make?

This should be oh so simple

Yet still I struggle.

I seek magical answers

When life stands right before me.

Who Is He

Who is he?

That is if he is a he and not a she?

He is whomever we need him to be.

He is all powerful to those that feel powerless.

He is all loving to those whose hearts are broken.

He is all forgiving to those who have gone astray.

He is all understanding to those who are in turmoil.

He is all comforting to those who have been wronged.

He is all knowing, all seeing, all hearing..

He is the reason for the good in this world.

He is the reason for the evil in this world.

He creates.

He destroys.

He punishes.

He saves.

We are his likeness.

We are him and he is us.

We can be powerful to help those feeling powerless.

We can be loving to those with hearts that are broken.

We can be forgiving to those who have gone astray.

We can be understanding to those who are in turmoil.

We can be comforting to those who have been wronged.

We can know, can see, can hear.

We can do good in this world.

We can do evil in this world.

We create.

We destroy.

We punish.

We save.

We look outside instead of looking inside.

Perhaps we had the answers all along,

But were too blind to see.

Perhaps…

I Lay Prone

I lay prone before God,

Am I worthy of the gift he offers?

I have done nothing to deserve his graces,

His mercy, his saving, especially from myself.

I do not change, I am sinful as I was born to be,

As we were born to be by our father and mother.

Adam and Eve cursed me to a lifetime of sin,

Simply by their failure to obey,

Failure to obey their hunger and thirst for understanding.

This is where it all began,

The anger, the hatred, the intolerance,

This is where the eternal struggle began,

Of good and evil, Heaven and Hell, I bow before it,

Afraid of what I am and what I will become if I fail to comply.

I wander from one phase of mortal understanding to another

Though in the end, I find that I understand nothing.

I am but a grain of sand embodied in ignorance,

Destined to wander this earth searching for answers

Answers that have laid dormant within me,

But I was too frail to see.

Vociferous Me – A Tanka

Vociferous me

Religion and politics

Destined to divide

Still answers are illusive

Therefore I must question on

~

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Some Have Seen – A Tanka

Some have seen the light

Exactly what does that mean

Is the riddle solve

Has the question been answered

Or is the light illusion

Soul Searching

Soul searching…deep and bloody,

A soul pure in its ignorance, stunted in cynicism

Bleeds to dull the pain.

This pain is not physical–it is spiritual;

Like thirst, it is teased by the eternal mirage.

Crawling through the sand, it sifts through my fingers

As sand through an hourglass is bound to do,

Parched, I search on, confused.

History held the answer…their answer for their time,

Passed on, an amalgam of what the past held true.

Each thought they were right, that they knew,

Yet they knew no more than their predecessors,

Just as I know no more than mine.

So I hunt, swallowing pieces of the puzzle;

Never sure of the truth,

Always one piece short.

In Search Of Answers – A Tanka

In search of answers

Man’s spiritual quest for truth

Leads to the unknown

Is there Heaven or Hell

Or are we the creators

~

The Answer

Staring heavenward

Praying for profound answers

I was the answer

They were in me all along

Had I taken time to look

Answers

Answers–sought after for a lifetime,

Ebbing and flowing,

Never concrete.

~

Arms outstretched,

We reach…reaching…

Still always just out of our grasp.

~

Ignorant, we think our quest has ended,

Circumstances change,

What once was gospel dissipates.

~

We think ourselves wise,

But mere fools are we,

Not knowing that we know nothing.

~

Time has proven our innocent arrogance,

Dumbfounded,

We lumber on.

~

Still this is not new to mankind,

As antiquity portends,

Locked in this eternal struggle.

~

In our end we may finally realize,

We are not so unlike those that came before,

Seeking, yet failing to understand what this all means.
