O’ Calloused Heart (Sonnet)

O calloused heart, how for art thou still beating,

Glances cast at thee thou hath repelled.

Taking flight at thy masters pleading,

How couldst thee in good conscience foretell.

Thou art more beautiful than the rose,

Tho thy thorns art no less deadly.

No more couldst I offer to thee my betrothed,

Than to be forthright of mind and steady.

Nay–this was not enough,

Thy blood and soul hast proved tainted.

Coarse is thine heart when passions in the rough,

Dante’s tragedy to my core hath been painted.

Were thou only more gentle of spirit, more tender and kind,

In my true love thou wouldst bath and no truer love wouldst thou find.

Is Love What We Think (Tanka)

Is love what we think

An emotion of the heart

Or is it a flaw

A flaw of human nature

Opening us to sorrow

Our Hearts Fade to Black (Tanka)

Our hearts fade to black

When compromised by a love

Leaving them broken

This isn’t by our design

But by our God given flaws

Blast of Arctic Cold (Tanka)

Blast of arctic cold

Chilling me ‘til blood runs thick

Rattling my bones

Like the loss of love’s passion

Breaking the innocent heart

Does She Dream–She Dreams No More (Sonnet)

Does she dream–she dreams no more,

Though mother grieves, her spirits flown.

Tears are shed in torrents, stain upon the floor,

In her heart of hearts she has most surely known.

.

Knowledge diminishes not a mother’s sorrow,

Science cold, offers no sympathetic relief.

Knowing there will be no more tomorrows,

Does little to quench her wrenching grief.

.

Its time she needs to weep and mourn,

A daughter lost to procedure routine.

To unite and mend a family torn,

By results unexpected, gross and obscene.

.

Her passing a reminder of the commonplace, still serious,

And the pain no less painful turns a family delirious.

So Much Tragedy (Sonnet)

So much tragedy in words withheld

Than to words we are beholden.

Silence cuts deeper than forest trees felled

To those held more precious and golden.

.

We wait for tomorrow as if plenty of time

Assuming the other must know.

What lies in our hearts, our feelings sublime

Saying one day that surely we’ll show.

.

Until such a time that love grows apart

Blinded by such a surprise.

Mending of passion, where do we start

With tears welling up in our eyes.

.

Speak your true mind and follow hearts lead,

Ne’er to be lead astray if it’s guidance you heed.

It Grows Dark in a Firestorm of Tumultuous Passion (Sonnet)

It grows dark in a firestorm of tumultuous passion

Thoughts of you under another’s caress

Fighting to keep you in any fashion

Its you, by any means I must possess

~

You promised eternal love before family and friends

I do, sealed with a kiss we were wed

Our vows for you clearly were a means to an end

By the folly you’ve made of our bed

~

Is not the sanctity of marriage to be held sacred

Clearly not by your monogamous charade

You’ve done nothing more than fertilize a hatred

Flaunting your sins as if on parade

~

With this to my senses I have finally arrived

At the realization–what I thought was love was really contrived

Don’t Leave Me – A Haiku

“Don’t leave me.”. she cried

The grass is always greener

Through wandering eyes.

I Loved You Deeply – A Tanka

I loved you deeply

Only to be cast aside

As I showed my age

Tossed away like an old shoe

Worn thin by many miles

Every Thought Of You – A Tanka

Every thought of you

Conjures up the memories

I’ve tried to suppress

Spilling out my weaknesses

Leaving me spent and hollow
