Beauty of Autumn – Haiku

By D. R. DiFrancesco

************************************

Winters icy chill,

Leaves frost on tender branches,

Bidding fall goodnight.

************************************

The wane of summer,

Ignites a rush of color,

Solace to the eyes.

************************************

Howl of autumn wind,

A cyclone of rainbow leaves,

Falls softly to earth.

Mortality of Man

By: D. R. DiFrancesco

On bended knee,
Bloodied and bruised,
I prayed for forgiveness,,
Hoping for nothing else to lose.

This was not to be,
With tears and head bowed,
Reciting the mantras learned as a child,
A blessing on me I hoped you’d endow.

Having spewn blasphemous epithets,
Having thought impure thoughts,
I was not worthy,
I could not receive the mercy I sought.

A victim to the sins of Adam,
Consumed by the treachery of Eve,
Am I doomed to the frailty of my being,
“Oh no!” I am told if only I believe.

So to what fate is my soul condemned,
To Satan’s dominion or Heaven’s charity,
This is a question of faith,
To ask of God for greater clarity.

We question life’s lessons and failures,
Yet in these, may reside the answers we seek,
As they say, “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger”,
Quelling what is mortally weak.

Does a God exists, for this I am hopeful,
For if not then this is all for naught,
There’s no comfort in nothing, if you’re gone you’re gone,
Pray for veracity in what we were taught.

Love #2 – Haiku

By D. R. DiFrancesco

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

That come-hither look,

The smile, the hush in your voice,

Sends chills up my spine.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

The rapiers blade,

Stings less than love forsaken,

On a starless night.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Arrival of spring,,

Emboldens a passive heart,

Wakening young love.

Love #1 – Haiku

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Drenched and cold I cry,

Longing to be comforted,

By the warmth of you.

#########################

Do you feel my pain,

Crying out from every pore,

To be understood.

#########################

Echo my hearts beat,

Letting me know we are one,

One heart and one soul.

Offer of Love

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Can you hear my beating heart?
An echo in nights quiet,
A subliminal sound that you can’t ignore.

Can you feel my gentle caress?
Tender on your skin,
A chill up your spine that beckons you on.

Can you taste my loving kiss?
Soft and sweet on your longing lips,
A confection born out of passions throes.

Can you sense my warm embrace?
Enveloping your soul in romances glow,
A fire that burns white hot in an intimate affair.

All that I am I give to you,
A heart that beats for you,
A touch that longs for you,
A kiss thats deep for you,
An embrace that waits for you,
These are my gifts to you my love,
Now and forever.

47th and Madison

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Wind blows icy and sharp,

Sidewalks caked in gum and grime,

Could pass for Art Deco,

If not for their hearts of stone.

A biting chill rising,

Stinging the prone soul,

The corner she calls home,

Talking and motioning to her alter-ego.

Wrapped in a windbreaker of plastic,

Once for someones rubbish,

Black and torn,

This, her life fortune.

Passers-by avoid her gaze,

The unseen don’t exist in their convenient world ,

While scorn cast its ugly breath upon her,

Disguised as laughter and whispers.

She’s gone now,

Passed away, put away, moved on,

Her home, white washed and sterile,

Did you even know who she was, did she ever exist?

She could have been your mother,

Possibly a sister or a family friend,

Someone you could have loved,

She could have even been you.

A Grand Journey

By D. R. DiFrancesco

A quite stream,

Meandering its way over sand and stone,

Shows no beginning,

Leaves no end.

Slowly changing its destiny,

Evolving over eons into something much grander,

Languid yet constant,

Magnificent in its determination.

Housed under an awning of green,

Running a marathon clear and cool,

While aiding stowaways on their epic journey,

Its own destination is uncertain.

It is life giving and life taking,

Giving vitality to both predator and prey,

Survival of the fittest,

Its beauty begets complacency.

Soothing sounds,

Bubbling and lapping as it follows its path ,

Serene and solemn,

Behold!…Natures finest hour.

Insecurity

By D. R. DiFrancesco

If only you could hear my thoughts

The aspirations I have for you

The love I feel for you

Would you be surprised

I have always been an idealist

For myself and those I cherish

Only yearning for the best for you

Taking pride in your little accomplishments

Offering up praise when you interrogate yourself

Anxiety and self-doubt were carefully sheltered from view

Constantly scratching and clawing,

Tearing up your insides in an attempt to escape

You kept them so well hidden

Your inner child cried for approval

I could not help but answer

I’ve always been susceptible to your tears

Drawing you close

Imbibing your insecurities

Reassuring your soul that you are worthy

This is not who you are

Looking in the mirror

You don’t see what I see

You are beautiful

You are unique

You are you

Success – Haiku

By D. R. DiFrancesco

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Hiding in shadows,

Scared of seeing the real you,

For fear of failure.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Draw on your beauty,

The lighthouse that will guide you,

To a brighter day.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Be strong little one,

Your essence makes you unique,

In all the world.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

To strive for greatness,

Means sometimes you will stumble,

Rising to the top.

A Not So American Dream

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Not so very long ago

I dreamed of a utopia

Beautiful and green

Full of promise and hope

Then man got in the way

Swelled with pride,

Consumed with self-importance

Greedy, prejudice and hateful

He ravaged the land

Taking what he wanted and leaving it in ruins

Polluting our water

Poisoning the ground

Making it a malignant wasteland

Seeing fit to keep this to himself

We planted

We built

We raised our families upon this cursed soil

Ignorant to the damage being done

Chronic illness plaguing our children

They say it’s all in the name of progress

Complain and you are Anti-American

Speak out and you are unpatriotic

Protest and you are a Communist

Who will be held accountable

The autocrats claims a divine right,

All in the name of capitalism

But they don’t plant, build or raise their children on this putrid land

They cry fowl from their ivory castles

Waving their jeweled scepters

Hiding behind their detestable walls

Looking down upon those of us less fortunate

They watch us wither under the toil of our labor

Building for them what they could not build for themselves

Drawing every last breath from us

All for the sake of another dollar

When will they have enough

When will we be more than just expendable

If they have their way

Never
