Bringing Out The Worst (Tanka)

Bringing out the worst

The anonymity

Of technology

Accountability lost

Amongst the zeros and ones

Green, It Bursts From Barren Bone

Green, it bursts from barren bone,

Winter’s skeleton it heals.

Buds like sequins brightly shone,

Nature’s attention it steals.

Grey and dull against sleet and snow,

Awake though seeming asleep.

Biding its time until spring makes a go,

An entrance its certain to keep.

An annual ball to welcome the birth,

Introduction sure to astound.

Filling the forest with echoes of mirth,

From sky to the roots underground.

O’ this time of year is a sight to behold,

Giving the living their due.

Year after year it never grows old,

Of this I’ll always speak true.

A Cheeky Letter (Tanka)

A cheeky letter

Congressmen sent to Iran

Not very funny

Preferring war over peace

They commit acts of treason

Analog Has Gone Digital

Analog has gone digital,

So much information so quickly,

What is truth and what is a lie, who knows.

They scorch the earth for an exclusive,

Relegating to the urn any semblance of journalism.

Erasure of the line between fact and fiction was inevitable

With each news segment fusing shock and entertainment!

Relaying stories in sound-bites,

My dyspathy grows with each passing day.

Mr. Cronkite’s bones must rattle at their blockade to reason,

With a charge of foul play at their lack of professionalism.

What a disgrace these vultures are…

Scarcely worth the carbon they’re made of.

Gone Are Those Days

Gone are those days

You know…the ones where our children are better off than we are.

What is better for them,

Saddled with debt for an education that guarantees them nothing,

Grown children living with their parents,

Prospects for their futures clouded,

Shadowed by unceasing war?

For many taking up arms for their country the only way to survive

Taking injury and death as necessary risks.

Is this what we wanted for our children,

Is this what our parents had hoped for us?

Where do they go from here in this country divided?

Everything is in turmoil!

The government is polarized,

The people brainwashed by extremist media.

Bankers, the greatest threat as described by our founders

Have slithered their way into our capital’s marble halls.

So much promise has been squandered.

This once great nation is sacrificing its young

And for what, pieces of gold,

A return to a past that has long since died,

Survival of the fittest where the rich become richer

And everyone else becomes irrelevant.

This is not the country I knew and loved,

It is an abomination of the worst kind

Feasting on the bones and blood of our children

To fuel its unquenchable lust and greed.

To Feel Young Again (Tanka)

To feel young again

My aches and my pains vanquished

Tireless child

They say it’s a state of mind

My body says otherwise

Falling, falling down

Tumultuous Times

Tumultuous times

Born of man’s own flawed design

Corrupt purity

Look at what we’ve created

Hatred, violence, killing

Pollution, disease

All in our quest for power

Leading to what end

We are murdering each other

We are killing our planet

What Is It You See (Senryu)

What is it you see

Trapped behind my pale blue eyes

Spark of God in flesh?
