Is Life a Vision

Is life a vision–

A dream of our creation

Like a childs game

Lived in a homemade costume

Pulled from our minds own toy box

I really don’t know

Would it be so terrible

Living a charade

So long as it makes us happy

During this finite voyage

My Predicament (Tanka)

My predicament

Funny unless you live it

Then it is just sad

Be cautious with ridicule

As it just might bite you back

Toil of the Day (Haiku)

Toil of the day
Drains every ounce of my strength
Cover me with dirt

Curmudgeonly

Curmudgeonly, that is me I fear

I swore I would not become my parents loud and clear

I would not criticize the music I hear

Clothes, the hair, nor all they hold dear

~

But I lied or failed does it really matter much

I don’t understand rap, hip hop, electronic dance and such

Pants low with boxers high held up by belt buckle clutch

Publicly grabbing crotch with not the gentlest of touch

~

More critical of the guys than the girls I have found

Cars with whiny mufflers, where’s the glass-pack rumbling sound

Trucks that can’t pick-up cause they’re lowered to the ground

I guess its finally happened what goes around comes around

~

I’m trying my best to break out of this mold

Being more accepting as I so adamantly told

Judging by appearance is a form of profiling bold

Isn’t it bizarre how we transform as we grow old

AUTHOR’S NOTE: These are just a few observations about myself that honestly, I find embarrassing since I promised myself from an early age that I would not succumb to this type of thinking, but to one degree or another I have.  I am working hard to change my mindset so we will have to see where that goes, but I’m sure that at least some of you can relate.

In Utter Sadness (Tanka)

In utter sadness

I drown among presumed friends

Only to be shocked

When their masks have been cast off

And their true colors revealed

~

Venture Into This World (Sonnet)

Venture into this world with a free and open mind

Let not negativity toward spirit corrupt

As the old saying goes “Seek and ye shall find”

Push onward and never give up

.

This world–an oyster–is yours to discover

The wonders and mysteries await

Secrets yet unknown are yours to uncover

As curiosity and passion conflate

.

Do not ever doubt your pureness of heart

Or your ability to achieve in this world

There is so much ahead before time to depart

Let this tapestry of life be unfurled

.

If ever you feel that you’re mired and afraid

Know I’m here, through your successes I’m repaid

.

Love Comes With Wrath of Thorn (Sonnet)

Love comes with wrath of thorn

When hearts betrayed the beautiful rose

Comfort breeds the birth of scorn

Passion cools, its numbness shows

.

O’ fair, my fairest bloom

Fear not that my love has waned

All is not lost nor cloaked in gloom

Seeing you troubled has caused me pain

.

I promise dear love to right my way

Intent not given with thought of malice

Blind to signs of that which holds sway

To raise you back up to throne and palace

.

Time hath made loves flames grow tepid

I vow to weave our hearts beat threaded

.

Sweet Revenge Corrupts (Tanka)

Sweet revenge corrupts

Polluting body and soul

Leaving you hollow

Inconsolable regret

Will become your lifelong friend

~

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Will Work For Food (Sonnet)

Will work for food, the sign they show

Please help a vet down on his luck

Diverting their eyes the passersby go

Life on the street a vicious cycle they’re stuck

~

Hey there mister can you spare a dime

Or maybe a buck to try to get home

Would it be possible to give me some time

We’re so tired of being in the cold all alone

~

We could be your sisters and your brothers

We used to have jobs, families and homes

We could be your fathers and your mothers

Hungry and weary, nothing but skin and bones

~

Obligated as humans should we be one to another

Practicing what we preach by seeing to the needs of the other

.
