Terrorists looming
Hidden amongst the shadows
They’ve no need to act
We are already afraid
Thanks to our politicians
Without a shot fired
We’ve cowered and raised the flag
Handing them the win

Searching for true love
Can consume you like quick sand
Do not allow it
Take time…open yourself up
The risk is worth the reward

Shadowy creatures
Thrive in absolute darkness,
What is it they seek?
Are they feasting on my fears
Or do they desire blood?
Real or imagined
They torture me just the same.
This…my illusion
Has become reality,
Whether I like it or not.
The mind truly can
Be such a terrible thing…

Feelings of despair
Brought on by this hectic world,
Hopelessness abounds.
Could our connectedness be to blame;
Glowing screens of every shape and size?
Even in sleep there is no rest
For the modern mind will not quiet.
Discerning truth from fiction is ever more daunting
With the right and left screaming for attention.
I’ve forgotten what silence is like,
No notifications, no ringing, no television
…A simpler time.
Could it be time to power off
Leaving all things electronic black and lifeless?
It’s undeniable that those times were happier,
That families talked and people listened.
We walked with our heads up and smiles on our faces
Instead of head down and into poles.
Maybe twenty four hour news, tweets and likes are a cancer
Feasting on our teetering sanity.
I am a realist, I know the past is the past
To which we will never return,
But maybe a little self imposed downtime is in order
Just for a bit of nostalgia.

Feeding on our fears,
Our bones ripe for the picking,
Vultures every one.
Everyday a new horror
New people, places and things.
You must be gifted
WIth visions of the future
At your fingertips.
Can you sense the sarcasm
Dripping from each written word?
With an artist’s flare
You paint the grimmest picture
Of Hell here on earth
Done just for your benefit
And this nation’s war machine.
With impure motives
Your aim is not to protect
It is to profit,
Using blood as currency
To swell your coffers.
Now I must ask you
With sincere undue respect…
Define terrorist!
Not exclusive to Islam
So…if the shoe fits wear it.

Darkness swoops in like shadow cast by the raven;
A figment of imagination created by a troubled mind
Or reality, black and foreboding stealing a bit of sanity.
It is impossible to truly know which is which.
Fearing the worst, confidence is crushed to dust
Taking with it any semblance of normalcy
And scattering it to the four winds with each living breath.
O’ demon, take not my last shred of humanness
For fear that it may never return.
Tell me…what is it that you so hungrily desire!
Feasting on my deepest thoughts and dreams,
Why must you torment with such expectations of disaster?
Take leave…retreat with this illness back to the shadows
I shalt not be enslaved by thy razored talens.
Should survival not be my destiny, I shall take leave of my senses
Knowing that I fought to the bitter and bloody end.

Little man
Inspiring fear,
Nostradamus of the Senate.
Do you see into the future?
Selling your snake oil to the masses
Even you can’t believe your own spiel,
Yammering on about how tough you are.
Give up already,
Recycled warmongering is getting old.
Aren’t you exhausted,
Haven’t your policies done enough damage?
America should be a beacon of peace not of violence.
Maybe it’s time for you to go.

The sounds of nature
Ominous in the darkness
Fear of the unknown
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Tragedies shadow
Looms large over the fallen
Raining blood and tears
Some choose to help, some to pray
Some choose to turn a blind eye
Or no choice at all
Afraid it might be too real
Who am I to judge
I cannot speak for others
As I do not know their pain
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
And then the earth shook
Screams, tears…nowhere to run
Terror in Nepal
