What Lies Beyond We Can Never Know (Sonnet)

What lies beyond we can never know,

To fear the unknown is for the spirit weak.

Perception is purely what we show

And carried on the words we speak.

.

When we offer love to those who need,

Love returns a thousand fold.

Through this we plant a heavenly seed,

Divine this spirit we cannot hold.

.

Ours is not to gather and hoard,

But to share all that we’ve been graced.

These good deeds will never be scored,

Nor should we count the blessings placed.

.

This is why I believe we’re here, to help those who have lost their way.

This is how it has always been though often times we neglect to portray.

Solemn And Desperate We Walk This Earth

Solemn and desperate we walk this earth

Spending life in a quest for the Almighty.

The One we think we know through books

Through hymns,

Through symbols,

Through statues,

Through all manner of mankind’s understanding.

Living this life for the hope of something better;

Squandering precious time at the crossroads,

Looking north, south, east and west directionless

Leads to an unfulfilled life–

One of sadness and regret as this door closes.

Assuredly this is not what is thirsted for,

Nor what the Creator desires for his children

Yet we pretend to be omniscient;

Claiming to know what God wants of us,

Acting as judge and jury over our fellow man.

Even the Bishop of Rome has seen the light saying,

“Who am I to judge” realizing his humanness.

What if we were to love our fellow man,

Love ourselves enough to live life to the fullest,

Wouldn’t we be living as we were designed to,

Letting bygones be bygones?

Broken Hearts and Broken Dreams

Broken hearts and broken dreams left among the ashes

Ruins in the wake of the tsunami–your selfish desires.

Scavengers scour through the wreckage for sustenance

Finding nothing but crumbs left for them to fight over.

Is commitment so distasteful that exile is the only cure?

What of those cast aside, banished to Elba–victims,

Are they simply expendable for your greater good?

O’ what blackness must thrive in your narcissistic soul,

Pitiful…flourishing in this loveless existence of yours,

Choosing loneliness over the love and warmth of another,

Hiding like a coward behind a cold and hollow heart.

Like a lion you search for your next meal

Feasting, gorging hungrily as if this may be your last,

But you know it won’t, there is always another prey,

One that thinks it can tame you to save themselves.

Who is fooling who in this eternal struggle?

You are the sly one, knowing this is sleight of hand

Leading on those that offer you their hearts

Until you grow weary of their affections.

Tossing them on the heap

You grind their souls and their passions into dust.

A Joyful Noise Sings In My Heart

A joyful noise sings in my heart it echoes loud and clear

Always there yet subtle, until I chose to hear

Misery and failure so often self-imposed

To those whose minds are weakened, shuttered tightly closed

We’re here on earth to be happy, harmonious in our life

Free from inner turmoil, free from endless strife

Still hopelessness persists and plagues the hearts of man

As it has always been since our time began

Knowledge is the power that will break this horrid trend

Solving war and poverty will bring it to it’s end

A precious gift to all mankind comes wrapped in simple love

The answer to our problems which came from up above

Or has love always been in us, but hidden by our pride

Afraid to share with others, instead we chose to hide

Convinced we’ve always had it, I give it from the heart

In time it will bring together rather than tear apart

For loving is far easier than the stress of eternal hate

Getting what we give will be our ultimate fate

So Much Tragedy (Sonnet)

So much tragedy in words withheld

Than to words we are beholden.

Silence cuts deeper than forest trees felled

To those held more precious and golden.

.

We wait for tomorrow as if plenty of time

Assuming the other must know.

What lies in our hearts, our feelings sublime

Saying one day that surely we’ll show.

.

Until such a time that love grows apart

Blinded by such a surprise.

Mending of passion, where do we start

With tears welling up in our eyes.

.

Speak your true mind and follow hearts lead,

Ne’er to be lead astray if it’s guidance you heed.

Winters Chill Fast Approaching

Winters chill fast approaching,

Trees barren of supple leaves

Stand cold and hard–unfeeling.

Still my heart beats–

Pulsing warm and full of life;

Though invisible to the naked eye

Like the tree…I live,

Waiting to usher forth that which I hold close.

My passions roil inside begging release,

But this runs contrary to my grain.

Struggling as that of the springtime bud

To escape from their dormancy.

Perhaps this cocoon is of my own making,

Protecting me from imagined fears.

I push…push with all my might

Against my ivy covered shell

Long shuttered to keep the frost at bay;

Exposure to the cold starkness of life too much to bear.

This is not what it is to live

Instead it is simply existing,

Void of true joy, void of heartfelt bliss

I will hibernate no longer.

This will be my spring, my season of renewal,

Buds of my inner self will burst forth

Freeing me of my self-imposed bondage,

Allowing me to thrive

In the sunlight of the everlasting day.

Give Love (Sonnet/Anaphora)

Give love so love remains

Give from the heart with every beat

Give from the soul until it sings love’s refrains

Give until you feel passions heat

~

Live like today shall be your last

Live with gusto until hopes are fulfilled

Live until wildest dreams have surpassed

Live until the time that your heart has been stilled

~

Sing your song with most joyous of voice

Sing with the gladness from heaven above

Sing with the song God gave by his choice

Sing all your days with kindness and love

~

Cherish every moment for the gifts that they bring

For they pass by as quickly as an eagle on his wing

Worry Not My Love (Tanka)

Worry not my love
I’m made whole wrapped in your arms
And warmed by your kiss
I desire nothing more
Than to be cherished by you

Love Comes With Wrath of Thorn (Sonnet)

Love comes with wrath of thorn

When hearts betrayed the beautiful rose

Comfort breeds the birth of scorn

Passion cools, its numbness shows

.

O’ fair, my fairest bloom

Fear not that my love has waned

All is not lost nor cloaked in gloom

Seeing you troubled has caused me pain

.

I promise dear love to right my way

Intent not given with thought of malice

Blind to signs of that which holds sway

To raise you back up to throne and palace

.

Time hath made loves flames grow tepid

I vow to weave our hearts beat threaded

A Beautiful Smile

A beautiful smile, a tender face like your mothers,

A generous heart, we should not compare to the others.

You are not them, you are you, wonderous you,

Be proud of that, forever and ever remain true.

Though mistakes will be made my youngest one…

Know in your soul that you are the light of my day, my morning sun.

Judged more harshly than your sister or brother,

This was not my intention, I would never hope for another.

You are perfectly perfect just the way you are,

Bright as the celestial comet or a shooting star.

In your own way, you bring joy to me with every passing day,

Your laugh, sense of humor, funny faces, I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Each of you was born into this world with a gift,

Though oftentimes elusive when ensconced in siblings rift.

This is how it always is and how it has always been,

Its just how humans are, it has never been a sin.

Some are born with smart of book, others with common sense,

Some are gilded with a gift of the arts, while some remain on the fence.

This my sweet–is not a defect or a flaw instilled at birth,

Nor a judgement of your character, or a measure of your worth.

For you are worth the world to me, in all you are with your spirit free,

As I watch you mature and grow to become who you will be.
