Do You Hear Their Song (Haiku)

Do you hear their song
Baying to the lonesome moon
Coyotes crying

Sleep (Acrostic)

Seldom do dreams my sleeptime invade

Lost in darkness through deepest night

Ever praying that this nothingness fades

Endearing my soul to the brightness of day

Perhaps true reality is when blackness pervades

Last Traces Of Day (Tanka)

Last traces of day

Sink below the horizon

Relief from days heat

Still and warm, the crickets sound

Singing the song of the night

As The Moon Rises

As the moon rises and the sun bids a fond adieu,

As the final shafts of amber day fade to black,

There is a gentle stillness that overcomes earth and man,

One that’s existed since time began.

Our winged friends song falls on silent deaf ears,

Replaced by the somber tune of cricket and cicada.

The rustling of leaves ring vivid to the senses,

Once undetectable amongst the chaos of the day.

Even the lowly housefly finds solace in dusk

Vanishing from sight with nights approach.

Simple is this time where rest encroaches

Though absent of life it is not.

Those of nocturnal bend do rise,

As they live the fullest of lives amongst the shadows.

The lonesome and distant howl echoes in the night,

The song of the owl a signal to impending prey.

These embraced as a welcome tune

Sing me to sleep under starry sky.

Nature–peaceful in all its glory is my lover,

Holding me in her tender arms until we rise with the dawn,

To kiss the newest day.

To Feel The Night (Haiku Series)

Warm–moist is the breeze

Accompanying the buzz

~~ Mosquitos draw blood

A blood moon eclipse

Is this the sign of end times

~~ An infrequent visit

Tend to breed anxiety

Poetry Prompt Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Heeding Haiku With Ha: To Feel The Night

The Sun Bids Goodnight

The sun bids goodnight

Never sorry for leaving

To call its lover

Dancing this eternal dance

Until its life fire dies

Chill of Night

Chill of night unfolds

Like that of a thread-bare sheet

Holding little warmth

Providing meager comfort

Allowing the mind to roam

Wherever it wills in dead of night

No barriers does it hold

Despite desire

Left to shiver in the cold

Until numbness takes control

Crystal Black Night – A Haiku

The crystal black night

Virgin canvas for the stars

Masterpiece awaits

Summer Nights – A Kyrielle

 Summer nights in sweltering heat.

Crickets chirp ne’er miss a beat.

Cheerful song, devil-may-care.

Like a knife cuts stagnant air.

~

Ribbit goes the frog in pond.

Male to female they both respond.

Spawning tadpole the two a pair.

Like a knife cuts stagnant air.

~

Heat of night does not deter.

Frog and cricket both concur.

Beautiful songs they both do share.

Like a knife cuts stagnant air.
