Such A Strange Little World

Such a strange world,

Surrounded by creatures small and smaller.

Into this place I’ve been hurled

Though still many times taller.

This is such an odd little place

Where I’m the the center of attention.

Creatures circle, fly and leave without a trace,

Still I’m not sure what’s their intention.

Very still I choose to sit,

Holding a statuesque pose.

Afraid if I twitch or flit,

They may bite my delicate nose.

Or scratch my ivory skin,

Turning snow white to bloody red,

Maybe kick me in the shins,

By god, I look almost dead.

Then suddenly a boom,

To the sound of thunder I awake.

Lying on the floor of my room,

Tell me–how much acid did I take.

The Soul While on Earth

The soul while on earth struggles in the stairwell,

Longing to climb to heavenly heights.

This pursuit, no matter how noble and well intentioned

Does not come without warning.

Do not squander this life, nor disjoint from the Creator,

Whomever you hold that deity to be.

For surely you will suffer in the fires of hell

Which the devil’s bellow hath stoked.

Instead follow the avenue both straight and narrow,

For you are the seed planted in the furrow,

Not by accident, but by design to flourish.

Though I know you salivate to touch eternity,

All consumed by the promise of this lyrical dream,

You are here to make a difference,

To create, to fulfill the promise

…of your divine birth.

Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Wordle #4 Writing Prompt

Shipwrecked (Reverse Acrostic)

Many a trip to distant shores

Seen from deck and crows nest high

I pray my return home to Aliveri

Its port, my village, my final trip

Still far from home the wind did blow

Gale ripping sails from masthead and spar

Fierce storm did brew this wretched foe

Fear contagious proving fatally toxic

Men jumping ship as we list and creak

Hull split and torn, I choke on frigid brine

I bid you farewell with great sorrow–I’m dead

Poetry Prompt #6 Reverse Acrostic – We Drink Because We’re Poets – Prompt Word: Shipwreck

Birth is All Around Us

Birth is all around us;

In everything,

Every blade of grass,

Chirp of baby birds newly hatched,

Tiny flowers submitting to their nature to be fruit,

The covey of quail scurrying single file,

Rise of the sun upon a new day,

Winter welcoming the spring,

Barren branches bursting with cool green leaves,

April rains coaxing wildflowers from nothing,

Parks full of strollers and carriages,

Toddlers laughter filling the air,

Earth and sky warming.

Birth is all around us,

In everything,

Wondrous!

When I’m Left Alone (Tanka)

When I’m left alone

I realize what I miss

Your love and your touch

Reminding me of our youth

And what we felt long ago

Broken is the Heart of Man

Broken is the heart of man

When love is buried in sand

Sand of adultery–quick

Sinking romance like a brick

~

Lost in passion mind is numb

Leaving wearer blind and dumb

Oldest fault–a mortal sin

Badge of shame in human skin

Mysteries of Life

Mysteries of life

Mold our history daily

If we would listen

Modernity dismisses

As nonsense through its science

How sad is our state

That we refuse to witness

All that is offered

Because our senses are blind

Sight. smell, touch and sound can lie

Ravenously You Look Upon This World

Ravenously you look upon this world as a pirates chest,

Waiting to be plundered and pillaged.

Do you not see wrong in this?

The spoils are not for the powerful.

In fact–they are not spoils at all,

But gifts given for our momentary use!

These “things” we so desperately seek,

They are but tokens…nothing,

Objects of desire that cannot save us,

I am quite certain of this.

These lands in which we stake our flags,

The waters which we claim as ours,

The air with which we do as we please,

Polluting, damming, acid rain, smog,

Thieving, eminent domain,

None of this is ours to possess!

We do not hold dominion over this world,

By doing so we destroy these gifts.

We war in the name of possession;

Subjugating others for profit,

Excluding those that we deem unfit.

Who made us king, master, dictator?

Some may say God,

That He made us lord over his creation,

But I disagree.

Did God grant Adam and Eve property rights,

Ownership of His design for them to do with as they pleased,

Did He sanction the hoarding of food, water or any other means of sustenance,

Or did His plan instruct them to take just what they need?

Since He would provide all that was required, greed and gluttony should have been unthinkable,

Yet we managed to bastardize His plan.

We overindulge in sustenance and material things,

Collecting property as if it was ours to keep,

Threatening to slaughter those that trespass.

Taking all that exists in this world to share and claiming it as our own.

Cultures considered less civilized than ours still exist,

They don’t need a mortgage for the ground on which they sleep,

They don’t feel the need to claim possession of the air which they breath,

Nor feel the need to control the waters,

They just live,

Taking no more than they can carry,

Leaving no trace behind.

Is there not elegance in their simplicity?

We lost our way eons ago,

Our path overgrown with weeds.

Still there is hope,

Though unlikely in my lifetime,

That we may once again trample a path

Back to our divine design.

Living simply,

Trusting that there is enough for everyone,

Sharing with those in need;

Unrealistic perhaps,

But this is my dream.
