I Think Of You

I think of you…

When I’m alone

In a crowded theater

Just before I close my eyes

~

I see you…

In the face of every stranger

Standing beside me in the mirror

Lying next to me while I sleep

~

I feel you…

When we are apart

When I caress a picture you

In my most restful dreams

~

Know I love you…

‘Til my dying day

With every fibre of my being

With every breath I take

~

Simple things to express the depth of my love

Never ebbing, heartfelt and passionate

Engrained into my soul

My soulmate, my lover, my friend

Together So Long – A Tanka

Together so long

We speak volumes with silence

Our thoughts meld as one

What a strange phenomenon

This marriage of two mimes

How Long Does Love Last

How long does love last?

A question asked for eons,

Yet answers elude.

Wouldn’t it be best to ask,

How committed is your heart

To keep love alive?

For pondering loves demise

Will most certainly doom it to fail.

Woman

Beautiful rose,

Tender and precious your petals

Blossoming with virtues to be envied

Instilled with virtues to be adored

The embodiment of your mother

Like her mother before her in perpetuity

Gentle at heart

Stronger than her counterpart

At times, sharp as a thorn

Drawing blood when crossed

Passionate and compassionate in the same breath

Nurturing by nature

Disciplinarian, teacher, spouse

Professor, professional, physician

Soldier, pilot, Captain

Intellectual, politician, leader

Fighting for equality to this modern day

Taken for granted by others

Unafraid in the face of adversity

Birther to all mankind

To be honored not once a year but daily

You are the treasure…

You are Woman

A Determined Love

Kindred spirit

This love was born of the stars

Others would not hear of it

This destiny was ours

~~

Our two souls conjoined

By Heaven’s sacred bond

Through vows to be coined

In this world and beyond

~~

My treasured love

In sickness and in health

You’ve stood beside and above

Though my life eluded wealth

~~

Surely this love must be true

Were it not you wouldn’t have stayed

Illness put a stain, the cause we never knew

My trust you never betrayed

~~

Love does not abide

In passions fair weather alone

Nor does it strive to hide

From life’s pain and strife when shown

~~

Our love, my love

Is etched in stone to last the ages

Through all the push and shove

We’ve show the fallibility of sages

Love in the Rear Window – A Haiku

Rear window sticker

Proclaiming, “I love my wife”

Aren’t you supposed to?

~~ D. R. DiFrancesco

These window stickers that I see all over the place bring a smile to my face.  As the husband in a marriage aren’t you supposed to love your wife?  This seems to be stating the obvious and certainly nothing that you need to advertise on you vehicle.   If it isn’t, then I missed something during my vows.  Is there nothing that we won’t stick on our cars?

Cherished One

A lavender haze abounds

The scent of lilac and persimmon permeates the air

What heavenly gifts to the senses

You, my love are such a treasure to behold

Bathed in these precious gifts from God

Your ivory skin soft to the touch

Perfumed in natures bounty stimulates my soul

Surely this must be Utopia

For to know you, you must be loved

In you is found serenity

A beauty deeper than the deepest of oceans

What further testimony need be professed

Than that of one enlightened by your being

It is not the physical alone

No, for that would be ensconced in the superficial

This may suffice were it not for your genuine modesty

Mere words can not portray the essence of you

As it is hidden behind a gentle facade

To ask for more would be an act of gluttony

An offence to the glory of nature

A sin against the wisdom of the Creator

You are perfection in my tired eyes

Beloved for all time

Weary Traveler

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Awaking bleary eyed I wipe the sleep from my bloodshot eyes,

Sensing my solitude, I reached for you but you are not there,

The faintest sliver of light passes between the hastily drawn curtains,

Revealing my bed, damp and crumpled and void of you.

Out of utter concern I rose, suddenly unfamiliar with my surroundings,

The feel of carpet under foot was in no way comforting,

Stubbing a toe on the nightstand I cried out in pain and for you!

But there was no reply to my labored pleading.

I’m suddenly alert from the throbbing and solemnity,

The weakest of smiles takes root on my unshaven face,

As unfamiliarity gives way to focus I slump incredulously at the beds edge,

Muttering under my breath, I must travel less and get more sleep.

To Her With Love

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Do not look me in the eyes my love,

For my intentions are seldom pure as a dove.

In constant labor to prove my worth are I,

Lest I fall from your grace wither and die.

With a gentle stoke of my cheek you reassure me,

That I am all you ever hoped that I could be.

Still I fret that my offering is not enough,

Insecurity has aged me wrinkled rough.

Yet you look upon me as if youthful and spry,

With a devil-may-care twinkle in your eyes.

And that come hither smile you so oft display,

Leaves me breathless as always in night or day.

Unworthy am I to be held in esteem,

Yet with each day I awake to find this isn’t a dream.

Should this not be what love is about,

I ponder and pray that it’s never in doubt.

Maybe, my love, in all the world you’re unique,

To have fallen for this fool with all others you could seek.

If this somehow by irony be true,

No one else could I have cherished any more than you.

The Vow – A Poem

By D. R. DiFrancesco

I could never find fault in you,
My soul lashed to yours won’t permit it,
Kindness envelopes your heart,
The warm inviting happiness in your smile
Blinds me to what others may see.

In my tribulation you have always been there,
Sickness and health has been no barrier,
My sadness washed away by your tears,
Nothing more could I ask of you,
All I could hope to repay, to return like kindness.

At my worst you stood by me,
Taking my hand to your lips,
A gentle kiss to reassure me,
Comforting me in your glow,
Inspiring my belief that everything would be okay.

When my strength weakend,
Bedridden and afflicted, you reinforced me,
Loving me without condition,
Honoring our vows,
Until I was strong again in my own flesh.

My friend through every storm,
I couldn’t ask for a better mate,
We are in union,
Syncronized to this lifes time,
My passion, my devotion, my love.
