Opposites (Acrostic)

Old, young,

Poor, rich,

Peaceful, aggressive,

Ordinary, extraordinary,

Sick, healthy,

Illiterate, educated,

Timid, extroverted,

Evil, good,

Statements for human segregation.

Country On The Brink

Country on the brink
Middle-class being trampled
Extinction awaits
Corporate greed at a high
Climbing the backs of workers
Shareholders don’t care
Its all about their returns
Screw blood, sweat, and tears

Weary From The Day (Tanka)

Weary from the day
Sunset draws me to slumber
Like a lover’s kiss
Embraced by the tranquil night
I bid a tender adieu

~~Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Sillhouetted Owl (Haiku)

Sillhouetted owl
Feathers ruffle silently
Who will be his prey

To Conform Is To Lie To Yourself

To conform is to lie to yourself,

To suck the joy out of this finite life.

It was never meant to be locked in a cage,

It was never meant to be stuffed in a box

Shrouded behind impenetrable walls

That blot out the sun and what lay beyond.

That is not living, it is merely subsisting.

Yet this is what our fears, our parents, our cultures preach,

Conform or you will be treated as an outcast.

Well then…perhaps an outcast is what I long to be.

Bhagavad Gita (Tanka)

Bhagavad Gita

Cherished in Hinduism

Brahman and Atman

Calling for selfless action

It has inspired millions

I Do Not Fear Death (Tanka)

I do not fear death

For this life is illusion

Cosmic theater

Of which I’m a thespian

On my way to my next show

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

We Are One World (Haiku)

We are one world
Though we seek ways to divide
Is peace so painful

Clouds Layered, Thick, Dark (Tanka)

Clouds layered thick, dark

Framing nature’s ragged face

She weeps for the sun

They are but star-crossed lovers

Counting down to reunion

Winding River, You Are Full Of Stones

Winding river, you are full of stones

Each covered in the blood of hatred.

Claiming to do as God commanded

You are false interpreters of the Word,

Stoning humanity into submission.

Under the guise of love you preach–

Conversion or death your message.

Yet in Heaven your Gods are the same,

Your aggressions on earth intertwined;

Surely there is enough blame for all.

Look! Your Holy texts are riddled with violence,

Deaths of men, women and children– so graphic;

Still you have the gall to point fingers at another!

You hypocrite, you heathen, you betray yourselves!

Each of you should be stoned for your digressions

You perpetrators of hate and death.

None of you are without human frailties,

None of you can claim to be speaking for Almighty God

For that–would be blasphemy,

Yet still you proclaim to know what is in God’s Heart!

Put an end this senseless bloodshed,

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”,

And nary a stone will ever be cast again.
