Revolution

Release the downtrodden

Ever held captive by the oligarchs

Voices stifled by their greed

Only the masses can free them

Let loose on the monsters that key their shackles

Until this is realized nothing will change

Take heed of these words

Indulge in their wisdom as our fathers foretold

Only then will we regain what has been lost

Never to lose it again…unless we revel in comfort

Love

Listen to your heart

Only it can hear your passion

Voracious in its appetite

Even in your parting hour

Holidays

Happiness in spite of hardships

Ordinary folks can forget their troubles

Living in joy at least for a little while

ISIS can’t take that away from any of us

Defending those easily criminalized

Always looking for goodness in others

Yuletides spirit will carry us through

Serving us all the days of our lives

Hatred

Humanity cast aside by irrational fears

Are men, women and children to be left to die in the cold

To perish with no way forward and no way back

Reality supplanted by racism your justification

Every one of you should be ashamed

Demonizing what you don’t understand

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Humility

Have we no shame

Unravelling nations and peoples;

Milling through their resources for our own gain,

Insisting we are justified.

Look at the dead in our wake!

Is this what humbleness looks like

Taking what’s theirs as ours

Yet claiming we are righteous?

Politically Correct

Posturing and belligerence weighs heavy in America.

Oligarchs and their minions speak their true hearts,

Little do they care about decency,

Ignorance replaces common sense…

This is the state of this union.

I do not understand when we digressed to these depths.

Could it be with the election of the first black President,

America’s prejudice finally bubbled back to the surface.

Locked away except in close circles

Little glimmers of ugliness rear their heads

Yearning to be brought into the daylight.

Could we really be this small and this hateful

Or is there hope that these pipers will lead their mice back to the shadows ,

Relegating them to Hell for the sins they speak.

Reasonableness seems to be all but lost!

Eliciting a response from the ill-informed is easy

Calling to to the lowest common denominator

This is truly sad when political correctness is deemed anything but kindness.

Capitalism

Can you imagine a country;

A system where money…

Profit is its religion,

I certainly can.

Take a look at what we’ve become

America, owned by corporations

Leaving its citizens rummage through their trash.

Is this what the promise was

Suffering under the greed of oligarchs?

Maybe not, but this is precisely who we are.

Labor Day

Lives of the common man

Abandoned to the whims of the few

Beer and barbeques dull the pain

Or do they

Reality is stranger than fiction

Does the American dream still exist

A white picket fence and security

You may believe so, but I’m not sure you are right

National Rifle Association

Never enough death for their liking

Always responding with “more guns”

This never seems to solve anything

It simply exacerbates the problem

Our constitution was meant to be fluid

Not fixed in the past

As times change so must it change

Lest we be captive to our founders

Read Jefferson

In his infinite wisdom he prayed it to progress

Fitting the needs of future generations

Left to our own vices we have failed

Every time a death occurs with gun-in-hand

Aren’t the lives lost worthy of discussion

Society says it has progressed

Sadly…I do not see it

Only more violence met with the promise of violence

Calls for change go unheeded

Instead they are met with angry rhetoric

Attacking anyone who disagrees

Toughening of gun laws is not outrageous

It is common sense

Only a savage society would disagree

Now let the games continue

Homeland

Hate for this word runs deep,

Ominous…reminiscent of the Nazis.

Men’s cruelty at its worst…

Even now I shiver at the thought.

Luther never dreamed of it in his day.

America, are we on the path to radical nationalism?

Never has there been a more dangerous thing,

Deutschland’s history…I pray it never repeats.
