Negativity (Acrostic)

Nightmares, perhaps a chemical imbalance

Edge me ever closer to the precipice.

Granted, I have had a favorable life;

Adorned with friends, family and children,

Time, health, home, finances have been kind.

In spite of all this, happiness eludes me.

Venom spews from my lips quite freely

Instigated by a darkness living deep within.

This I must tame if I am to find lasting peace

Yet I question daily, my ability to do so.

Sleep (Acrostic)

Seldom do dreams my sleeptime invade

Lost in darkness through deepest night

Ever praying that this nothingness fades

Endearing my soul to the brightness of day

Perhaps true reality is when blackness pervades

ISIS (Acrostic)

Ignorance under a religious guise

Soiling the good name of those who follow God in peace

Inciting fear and bloodshed amongst your brothers

So you can selfishly reap the benefits of this world

Namaste (Acrostic)

Nowhere and Everywhere,

All things and No-thing,

Master and Servant–God,

Acknowledging the Divine in you

Satisfies my soul

Teaching me to love others

Even more than myself.

Patriotic (Acrostic)

Purveyors of hate

Attempt to intimidate those of unlike minds–

Turning to violence and angry rhetoric to force their points-of-view.

Reality eludes them as they long for their diluted utopia.

I do not despise my country nor my brothers,

Only those despots among us that desire to bastardize it in their image.

They and they alone are treasonous,

Ignorant and insidious,

Corrupting all that is good in the name of the flag.

Father (Acrostic)

Fish out of water we are;

Acting courageously in the face of the unknown.

The mother bonds throughout the nine months,

Her instincts ingrained at birth.

Even though we put on the bravest of faces,

Reality and confusion set in…welcome to fatherhood.

D-Day (Acrostic)

Dying on a beach named Omaha

Determined to win no matter the cost

All for the restoration of Europe’s freedom

Yellow ribbons do not do them justice

Suffocated (Acrostic)

Slowly–we are drowning

Under the weight of our own pomposity

Foolishly choking our humanity with laws

Failing to realize our divinity

Overcompensating

Could we not, would we not, if…

Allowed to live as we were designed

Think for ourselves

Ending domination by the oligarchy

Determining our own intention

Shipwrecked (Reverse Acrostic)

Many a trip to distant shores

Seen from deck and crows nest high

I pray my return home to Aliveri

Its port, my village, my final trip

Still far from home the wind did blow

Gale ripping sails from masthead and spar

Fierce storm did brew this wretched foe

Fear contagious proving fatally toxic

Men jumping ship as we list and creak

Hull split and torn, I choke on frigid brine

I bid you farewell with great sorrow–I’m dead

Poetry Prompt #6 Reverse Acrostic – We Drink Because We’re Poets – Prompt Word: Shipwreck

Love (Acrostic / Tanaga)

Let not the heart turn to stone

Or chill through selfish desire

Virulent is what it lost

When smothering the fire
