As the raging waters turn

Drowning the foolish

But bitterness…hate

Weeds choke off one’s passion

Leaving nothing but wasteland

In trepidation

Pain foments until putrid

Romance the victim

With trust shattered like blown glass

The wounds bleed until bled out

I Gathered Stones And Pebbles

I gathered stones and pebbles

For a fortress to build,

Bulwark against the evils of this world.

Having fought them for so long

I am weary, fearing that I have no fight left in me.

My swords I’ve dulled, sharpened and dulled again

Beating back the cruelty and injustices of man

Only to have them retake territory.

This has been the history of our species;

Seek, conquer and destroy our lasting legacy.

So cocooned in my citadel I shall wait,

Quietly, patiently, until the day of reckoning,

Praying for this succession to end.

Sad is this season
That its kindness is fleeting
Gone in the new year
Replaced once again with greed
And loveless human spirit
Quickly we forget
The message of tradition
Tossing it aside
When it no longer serves us
Returning to loathsome ways

Will the killing end
The cycle of violence
Answered with the same
When has retribution quelled
Never–it’s provocation
Igniting more death
Until reasons are foggy
And senses immune
It becomes the way of life
Cold, hard and desensitized

Justify it as you wish
It only breeds more hatred

Turbulence of day
Melds into a peaceful night
Beauty in silence

Harbor no ill will

Make friends of your enemies

Though unnatural

Forgiveness is essential

To live a spirit filled life

So easy to say

In the right circumstances

Though hard to commit

Once anger has taken hold

Breathe deeply and let it go

So Demanding

So demanding, so selfish,

Looking out for “me” and me alone.

Didn’t your mother tell you,

Play nice and share.

When denied–anger rages,

Desires, like flames burn.

When left unchecked

Humanity suffers;

Feeding materialism,

Hunger for power,

Loss of compassion.

There is no peace,

Thirst cannot be quenched,

Enough is never enough

Needing ever more to survive.

Without spirit

The monster is revealed.

Without love and compassion

The host becomes a shell

Succumbing to the alter.

Tyrants and despots

Know this far too well.

Do not fall victim to this knave

For the path can lead to darkness.

You are the master–

Demand subservience

As if your soul depends on it

From the spoiled child,

…Ego.

So prim and proper
Appearance–polished marble
Hiding their hatred
What darkness lurks underneath
Only God in Heaven knows
Ever so scary
Is man’s deceptive facade
Disguising his evil
Making those you think you know
Perhaps your worst enemy
