Their Playground

Their playground, our world

The bullies intimidate

Taking what they want

Caught in their dangerous game

We are expendable pawns

It is Deja Vu

Cold War resuscitated

There are no winners

Just two very big egos

Gambling our existence

Ignorance (Acrostic)

Its not an excuse for inhumanity

God did not make us omnipotent

Nor did He make us judge and jury

Only He commands such authority

Racism, discrimination, hate

Arrogance, intolerance

None have a place in civilized society

Courage to withstand is paramount

Even though they will want us to burn

Hands Outstretched Across Aisle Hallowed

Hands outstretched across Aisle hallowed

Feigning sincerity and honest concern

Smiles and handshakes, there meaning shallow

Political mutiny from stem to stern

~

Spoils for the taking a populace held hostage

Bends to their whim and their will

With head in the sand like proverbial ostrich

They cater to every tyrant and shill

~

Too blind to notice or choosing not to see

Middle panders fringe left and then right

With no sense of reason what will be will be

Too beat down to put up a fight

~

When self-interest takes over who holds the bag

Its the poor, elderly and non-essential

Defined by the very people who brag

That their views are the most consequential

~

Left with a government who has shuttered their doors

We The People have nowhere to turn

Being held at the mercy of liars and whores

May their pinstripes and wingtips catch fire and burn

~

Honestly looking upon the tragedy we face

On whom does the fault truly lie

Yes, on the rodents that inhabit this place

But also on the uninformed, uninvolved, you and I

~

So when next we sit down and complain of our state

Look inside to what you have done

For without participation, this inevitable fate

Will consume and never be undone

Thirst and Hunger

Thirst is not a disease

Nor hunger a plague waged as a personal attack..

The dirty and downtrodden are not animals with opposing thumbs

Foraging through trash bins for food.

Their children are not parasites to be frowned upon!

They love just as you do with the same wants and needs.

Hands cracked and calloused know hard work.

Many toil hard and long for the barest of necessities

Only to fall short, thankful for assistance.

Yet you despise the poor collectively,

Lazy, blood suckers, bums, leeches,

Used as terms of endearment.

Speaking as though you know them or their circumstance

You display nothing but ignorance.

What do you know of their lives, their pain, their poverty?

Many are victims of economics,

Failing of health or disability,

Casualties of familial history,

Deprived of education,

Forgotten or blamed by the very souls with the power to change.

Greed and loathing blind,

Banishing compassion and humanity to the pits of hell.

I Pray For Restraint

I pray for restraint.

I pray that pride will not turn us blind,

This can only result in death.

Drawing all sides to the brink

On what road will there be peace?

.

Yes, perhaps lines have been crossed,

But lines can be distorted by wind,

Blurred by anger, smothered with oil,

Causing harried decisions…

This is the time for wisdom not greed.

.

Let not egotism ignite Armageddon,

The stakes are far too great.

Have we learned nothing from our past,

Nothing from our present,

Nothing from the farewells to our sons and daughters?

.

Tell us almighty, what is victory!

Show us what victory looks like,

We have not seen one in so long!

You ask again for our trust

Yet your truths ring as hollow as ever.

Pride – An Ethere

Pride

A sin

So deadly

Corrupting heart

And corrupting soul

Showing ones arrogance

The father of all others

Giving birth to six progeny

In spite of being self-absorbed

Plaguing this world for eternity

.

A Foolish Jealousy

Revel not in the happiness of others,

Nor share in their joy.

With false face and pasted smile, pretend,

Knowing this is wrong, stupid jealousy;

Unable to permit true glee,

Threatened by accomplishments beyond control.

This has always been and fear shall always be

A selfish flaw so ingrained it is painful.

What harm befalls, in the successes of others?

Not one in truth,

Yet the urge is far too strong to overcome;

Weakness takes hold,

Diminishing, making  pronounced the small and shallow,

Subject to the frailty of the flesh.

A lifelong endeavor to subjugate,

Success measured in meager steps forward then back,

To slowly free the mind,

Grasp at joy in all that surrounds,

Pleasure in nature,

Serenity in communion with fellow man,

This struggle runs deep torturing heart and soul.

Casual Observers

Are we not all but casual observers

This game…though not such a game that governments play

What is it they do not tell us in the name of our own good

Who are they to decide what serves us best

Are these not our lives, our futures, our hopes, our dreams

They toy with these for their own folly

For the sake of national pride we label others as evil

Without looking within at our own flaws

Puffing chests, bellicose, with an arrogance befitting fools

Answering tit-for-tat with ever greater threats of destruction

This chain of ceaseless violence, when will it subside

Years of pain, years of suffering have taken their toll on this weary nation

I ask, what have we won, show me…show us

Do we need another war, more bloodshed of the innocent,

Further sacrifices by our brave men and women delivered as pawns

for subversive economic gain

Isn’t it time to seek peace after so much loss

And break this cycle of violence.

Sorry

I stammer to speak,

Unable to make things right,

After all I’ve done.

Cursed to suffer shortcomings

Bestowed upon me justly.

Is this destiny?

Sorry is incapable

Of healing your wounds

Inflicted by arrogance,

Bred out of my selfishness.
