If…

If a tree falls in the woods…,
Do we hear it?

If a boy cries wolf,
Do we reprimand it?

If politics contradict science,
Do we believe it?

If a lie is told over and over,
Do we ignore it?

If a line is drawn in the sand,
Do we cross it?

If we won’t think for ourselves,
Do we deserve it?

If we refuse to learn from the past,
Do we repeat it?

Question authority as a thoughtful man.
Trust the facts when facts support,
For ignorance can never replace truth.

Aging Fingers Grasp At The Past

Aging fingers grasp at the past

While winds of change buffet them at every turn.

Quiescence is unnatural,

Steamrolling those that refuse to align.

Each generation flavors their water,

Drinking from the fountain of their creation;

Shaping the new world in the vision of the time.

Neither we nor our Constitution were meant to be stagnant,

Fluidity is what protects us, what progresses us.

We must put aside our antiquated notions of the past,

For as society evolves, we too are obliged to evolve,

Lest we die as a nation and as a people.

To Fly Like A Bird

To fly like a bird

Floating silently above

So close to Heaven

This would be liberation

And indescribable joy

Independence Day

Independence Day,

Celebration of freedom,

It’s slipping away

With America’s blessing.

Let’s keep our heads in the sand.

We’ve handed it off

To corporations and shills

With a boldface smile.

We have no one else to blame

But the face in the mirror.

In This Time Of Tragedy, It Does My Heart Good (Sonnet)

In this time of tragedy, it does my heart good,

To see peoples so diverse as allies.

Evil’s terror brings unity, just as it should,

With “Je suis Charlie” their defiant battle cry.

How must it have felt staring fate in the face

When our wrath brought their final curtain call.

Surely their God, will not bring them to grace

Instead down to Hell they must fall.

What God could condone their horrible acts,

Murdering innocents over Charlie’s cartoon.

Under guise of offense, an excuse for attacks,

Their cause becomes fodder for lampoon.

So pray on this day and stand steadfast as one, for us all they cannot defeat.

To live by the gun is to die by the gun, let us hope this will never repeat.

Election Day Nears (Tanka)

Election day nears

We have an obligation

To get out and vote

People have died for this right

So be sure not to waste it

Darkness Blinded Me (Tanka)

Darkness blinded me
I was lost in self pity
Seeing no way out
Then I opened up my eyes
And was saved by light and love

The Ghost Killer

The ghostly killer
Whose silent voyage complete
Rests within our shores
The price paid for our freedom
The cost of humanity
Testing fortitude
Will we practice what we preach

Independence Should Not Be A Question

Independence should not be a question,

It cannot be caged by man made boundaries,

It is the birthright of all men!

As a world we should cheer,

Hold hands in solidarity for those that long for freedom.

Our Scottish brothers and sisters strive for self-rule,

To live their lives of shared history as one nation,

Abandoning the sovereignty of the Crown.

This eve we should pray that their dream comes to fruition,

That they may stand as an independent Scotland

And proudly wave their flag for all the world to behold.
