Celestial peace
Seeps into this earthly soul
A slice of heaven
Perhaps this mortal being
Is a piece of the Divine
Not just in image
But a spark of God itself
If only we’d see

The Angel of Death
With us at our time of birth
Decides when we leave
This is not man’s decision
Unless there’s no God above
Perhaps there isn’t
Perhaps we aren’t watched over
And we are alone
How very sad that would be
If Heaven was pure fiction

Templar Knight (Shadorma)
Templar knight
Prepares to face death
Enemies
Heed God’s call
Convert before it’s too late
Or prepare to die
Knight (Acrostic)
Know and feared by all
None dare stand in their way
Invoking their wrath
God has so ordained
Heathens and heretics bow before them
To meet their maker

Prompt: Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie – Bastet’s Shadorma (and Acrostic) Prompt – September 20, 2014
O’ how man grasps for a Higher Power
Looking for answers to someone unseen
Praying for knowledge before the final hour
Asking recognition for all that we’ve been
Nay–seldom does the Divine ever respond
Rather resting squarely on the faith of man
Free-will determining what we will become
No one there to take us by the hand
Responsible are we for making our way
Following the path that we choose
Easy it is, surely no one will say
This life is ours to live or to lose

Just as guilty am I,
Wallowing in self-pity,
Focusing on the negative, worrying,
Blaming others for my station
Trying to will destiny to my vision
Instead of trusting in the Divine.
I need not worry;
All things will be as they should
Without my intervention.
I must flow like the river
Fluid and forgiving ‘til the end
If I am to be one with the Spirit.
I know that suffering is unnecessary
This life is full of abundance,
The Tao will provide for me
Giving me all that I need
By showing me the Way.
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Spirit touches me
Though I know not what to do
Seemingly aloof
And ever so elusive
I continue to struggle

Lightning tears the sky
Shattering heaven’s crystal
God’s fragile canvas

With rage filled falsetto,
The sword they did swing.
Exuding pure hatred,
As the metal blade did ring.
Their gesture surely proved,
Cruel motives not of God.
Over all the legions of bodies,
Their evil boots do trod.
How meaningless their killings,
Of brothers of the Quran.
All others considered infidels,
In this–God’s promised land.
While radiation bleaches,
The dead down to their bones.
Plaster’s painted red,
By blood spilled in their homes.
ISIS claims their quest,
God commanded of their troops.
While really it’s about power,
And the subjugating of groups.
Capturing the palaces,
The baroque and gaudy estates.
Feasting on the finest,
On gold and silver plates.
They pledge that no longer,
Will dormancy exist.
The caliphate will rise,
And rule with an iron fist.
Every living thing,
Will cower under their command.
Geese and sheep and camel,
And the people of this land.
Sadly violence met with violence,
May be the only way this stops.
Freeing terrorized citizens
To return to their farms and shops.
While nations far and wide,
Debate their horrid fate.
One nation no matter how imperfect
Stepped in before it was too late.
We lost one of our own,
One who never fought.
We pray that your death
Will not be all for naught.
The best thing we can do,
To honor your needless loss
Is to bravely stay the course,
And win at any cost.

I walked the fields and deserts,
Swam the lakes and oceans,
Breathed in the crisp mountain air,
Strolled the floor of the grandest of canyons,
Gazed into the clear blue sky,
Survived the darkest of storms,
Searching…
Seeking something I had already found.
It surrounded me always,
Was under every footstep,
Flowed gracefully around me with every stroke,
Was visible to me though I could not see,
Shone down upon me from the heavens,
Drenched me in every downpour.
It is in every cell, every vein of my being.
The Divine was always present,
Always enveloping me.
Though it has taken a lifetime,
I finally realize I AM.
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
It occurred to me today–
Prompted by a voice,
Not in my head,
No, it came from a voice on the radio.
I’ve heard this voice a hundred times,
Heard the same questions,
Heard the same answer,
But today–
Today of all days I actually listened.
What is life?
What is living?
That’s when the light finally turned on.
It’s the glorious journey of learning how to die.
We do it daily,
We do it with every breath.
We look to our religions,
Our Gods, our souls for the answer.
Why?
In the desire to leave this world in peace
With dignity,
With the hope for something after,
Something more than this temporary existence.
And why shouldn’t we?
Are we not returning to our beginning,
To the earth,
To the air,
To the heavens,
As we have been blessed to do.
