Look within your heart my wayward son
To where your ancestry lies
At gun’s molten barrel the war won’t be won
No matter how hard you might try
Where did your fathers and mothers come from
No doubt from a long distant shore
Once arriving in America their journey’d begun
Facing more than their hopes bargained for
Fiery rhetoric from the ignorant right
Does nothing but insight hate filled fear
Isolating newcomers who fled terrors fight
Disillusioning their wish to be here
It’s amazing how little this nation’s progressed
Seeing prejudice and racism rear their heads
Taking one step forward then two we regress
Giving in to the hate mongers dread
Perhaps it is time we holster our guns
And temper our fork tongued speech
Instead doing what America should have done
Practicing exactly what we preach

In the crystal blackness of the nighttime sky the golden tail of some terrestrial body illuminates the heavens. Perhaps it is the contrail of some alien ship looking down upon this sad misguided world knowing that soon all of this could be theirs as we perish by our own hands.

The breath of hatred
Resuscitates the weak man
Evil in the flesh

There is a war though weapons are words,
A rallying cry to ignorant herds,
Of who to fear and who to blame,
The right they do fire with venomous aim.
What progress we’d made seems now reversed,
Like empires of old we may now be cursed,
To end up in ruins under gluttonous rule,
Forgetting the history we learned in school.
Living in denial those culprits it serves,
Lying and deceiving with icy steel nerves.
All for more profits like parasites they leach,
Thriving in the fact that their money is speech.
Distracting the people with treacherous claim,
From Middle East to Mexico these people they blame,
For jobs leaving home and the state of our nation
By blustering and mongering and thunderous oration.
Their facts they are thin or nonexistent at all,
“Take back the country” their clarion call.
Take us back to where I wish they would tell,
To segregation and intolerance by the hatred they sell.
“Earlier times” only serves if you’re white,
Blacks and hispanics and Muslims must fight
To be looked in the eye and on even plain
With the privileged Americans that view them a stain.
If this be the direction the capitalists must take
On the backs of the common man they push til they break
Then revolution again must be waged to finally break free
From the tyranny of Monarchs they so want to be.
This is our duty and a citizen’s right
To question and challenge and bring wrongs to light,
For failure to do so is submission to rule
Painting you and I as nothing but fools.

Look under rock and in darkened cave,
Delve into nightmares your wakings enslaved.
Tell me O’ tell me what is it you fear
In each thing you see and each that you hear.
News of invasion and hordes stoke your fire,
Of conspiracy theories you never do tire.
Immigrants scare you though ancestors were one
You hide behind barricades with knife and with gun.
In each person of color is seen a terrorist’s face
Afraid they will conquer your white Christian place.
How sad it is to live with terror neverending,
An old way of life you are always defending.
Change is but natural and always has been
And not loving they neighbor…well that’s still one of God’s sins.

I can hear him laugh
Saying whatever he wants
Both vile and cruel
Through his puckered hateful lips
What does Trump care, he is rich
~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~
Politician’s words
Sometimes I just shake my head
Such stupidity
Appealing to the fringes
They hurt intentionally
We’re more sensitive
Of this there is little doubt
It is about time
Why must we tolerate hate
From those who wish to lead us
It’s freedom of speech
Defended by so many
I would not trade this
But freedom comes with a cost
One that is best spent wisely

Independence Day,
Celebration of freedom,
It’s slipping away
With America’s blessing.
Let’s keep our heads in the sand.
We’ve handed it off
To corporations and shills
With a boldface smile.
We have no one else to blame
But the face in the mirror.

Confederate flag–
Symbol of our darkest time,
Human slavery.
Prideful in their ignorance
There are those still full of hate.
Don’t they understand,
There are wounds as yet unhealed–
Open and bleeding.
Each raising stings of poured salt
In an already deep gash.
I weep for their pain.
Have they not suffered enough
At your racist hands?
The shame is you don’t see it
Being blinded by false pride.
