The Gift

~~~~~~
In this most festive time of year,
Let us not forget amongst our Christmas cheer,
In whom the honor of this day be blessed,
Exalted on High above all the rest.
~~
Every year at this time we tend to get lost,
Spending more than we have at almost any cost,
For fear we’ll disappoint the ones that we love,
Most surely we wouldn’t, petty things they’re above.
~~
This is not why the Lord brought his Son to this earth,
He is the gift in Christmas that was given at birth,
Nothing in this world to Him could compare,
With the sacrifice of Christ that God wholly did share.
~~
Our boxes and bows are mere trinkets to Him,
Valueless in comparison might I go out on a limb,
Tinsel and garland are beautiful it is true,
Lights of white, yellow, red, green orange and blue.
~~
These are not what Christmas time is about,
Not the trees, decorations, or the gifts that you tout,
Its about love and charity done all the year through,
Kindness shown unto others in all that we do.
~~
Its being thankful for Christ as we live out His word,
For benevolence though silent can still be powerfully heard,
This may be the greatest gift that as mortals we can give,
A gift we may freely offer for as long as we live.
~~
So enjoy your Christmas trees and your twinkling lights,
Just remember our Lord and His Bethlehem night,
For His gift that He gave so many years ago,
Is the only one we need through joyful song we do show.
~~
Draw nearer to you all your family and friends,
Shouting praises and prayer up to heaven you send,
We celebrate your birth baby Jesus whom we hold oh so dear,
May we embody the Christmas spirit all through the year.
Revenge, Quest for the Dragon
 ~~~~~~~~~~~

Cloven hooves and scaly wings,

Fire and brimstone my eyes it stings.

 ~~

The stench, burned flesh and rotting corpse,

This quest undertaken without remorse.

 ~~

To avenge my love of many years,

With sword and pike to steady my fears.

 ~~

So young and innocent in the talons clutch,

A life destroyed, she suffered much.

 ~~

This beast,a devil must surely die,

With head on stake and raised most high.

 ~~

The path to hades on unsure foot,

I trudge and stumble through knee deep soot.

 ~~

Gagging and choking on horrid smell,

Anxious that I’ll perish in this demon’s hell.

 ~~

Not before I slay my dragon foe,

I vow to persist ‘til my last breath dost go.

 ~~

The earth is scorched as I journey the peak,

The wind, a roar, guides me to the butcher I seek.

 ~~

The sound and stink of his putrid breath,

I grit my teeth in the face of death.

 ~~

Courage in the shadow of terror I must muster,

Sharpened point, razors edge, sabre’s glint in silver luster.

 ~~

The cave the den, path to hell in linesight,

The smoke and sulfur eclipse the sunlight.

 ~~

Flames erupt and singe the landscape,

I refuse to retreat, with night comes darkness drape.

 ~~

Hidden in shadows I inch my way onward,

Sword in clenched fist should I have to thrust forward.

 ~~

In shock and surprise the beast my scent hast sensed,

I lunge behind boulders as my lifes only defense.

 ~~

A roar as if from hades cracks the whistle of the gale,

Trembling in fear, his beating wings shedding monstrous scales.

 ~~

Flames nearly blinding, the heat my flesh boils,

I must run, change my course, before my quest he doth foil.

 ~~

As he draws in a breath for his next volley of fire,

I sprang from my hideout and circled much higher.

 ~~

In murderous rage the devil turned to give chase,

A discarded scale as a shield did I hoist in great haste.

 ~~

The torrent of fire my shield did repel,

Though I stumbled and fell how I survived and cannot tell.

 ~~

Another deep breath the dragon he drew,

Without a thought for my safety the pike through air flew.

 ~~

A ghastly howl filled the night as the pike hit it’s mark,

As flames filled the air piercing the obsidian dark.

 ~~

With head drawing down his roar from hell thrown my way,

With courage I filled, destined to live another day.

 ~~

Like a rabbit I jumped from behind makeshift shield,

With sword in clenched hand I swung what I wield.

 ~~

As his head it approached and our eyes surely meet,

With a leap I did plunge, blade to hilt landing on both feet.

 ~~

With a yell I withdrew bloody blade from the beast,

Pike still impaled to redeem my maiden, his feast.

 ~~

With sabre raised overhead to swing with all my might,

His crimson life draining along with his demon charged fight.

 ~~

A strike to his throat though armored it may be,

Shattered scale, flesh and tendon razored blade exposed he.

 ~~

He dropped to his knees spewing flames so erratic,

Moaning and crying in demon’s voice traumatic.

 ~~

With a thunderous tumble the mountainside shook,

As the monster’s death imminent the last breath he took.

 ~~

Elated I raised sword for one final blow,

Swiftly and grunting off with his head it did go.

 ~~

Exhausted I dropped to one knee and did weep,

Thanking God for His strength and His blessing bade me sleep.

 ~~

My darling revenge is now in my firm clutch,

I slay your cowardly killer helped by God’s mighty touch.

 ~~

Dragon’s head on the pike still my heart it does break,

No solace is found though serpents life I did take.

 ~~

Sadness eternal where my destiny lie,

“Til when unite and I mercifully die.

Cherished One

A lavender haze abounds

The scent of lilac and persimmon permeates the air

What heavenly gifts to the senses

You, my love are such a treasure to behold

Bathed in these precious gifts from God

Your ivory skin soft to the touch

Perfumed in natures bounty stimulates my soul

Surely this must be Utopia

For to know you, you must be loved

In you is found serenity

A beauty deeper than the deepest of oceans

What further testimony need be professed

Than that of one enlightened by your being

It is not the physical alone

No, for that would be ensconced in the superficial

This may suffice were it not for your genuine modesty

Mere words can not portray the essence of you

As it is hidden behind a gentle facade

To ask for more would be an act of gluttony

An offence to the glory of nature

A sin against the wisdom of the Creator

You are perfection in my tired eyes

Beloved for all time

Lost on one night stands

Your blue eyes cut deep

Filling the hole in my soul

With abundant love

We sit quietly

Lost in a tender embrace

Shutting out the world

Unrequited love

Corrupts the delicate heart

Leaving it broken

Just Another Day in the Promised Land

Homeless mother and child – csindy.com

By D. R. DiFrancesco

 ~~~~
Dirty faces streaked with tears,
Revealing the shell of who they were,
In silence they live their greatest fears,
Passing by, you pray they do not stir.
~~
Their homes a box, a shantytown,
No cover from rain, sleet or snow,
Living with luck or fate torn down,
With arrogance you look away from those below.
~~
Sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers,
They too were once like you,
Annoyed you pass, you can’t be bothered,
With these paupers, beggars and shrews.
~~
They did not ask for their station in life,
For many, no fault of their own,
They huddle with daughter, son and wife,
On these sidewalks and alleys alone.
~~
Lift yourself up and make your own way,
With what, is a question to be asked,
Struggling to eat day to day,
There’s no time for their plight to be masked.
~~
A little compassion would go a long way,
Helping pick up our fellow man,
With food and warmth and a safe place to stay,
Simple basics since time began.
~~
So many are one paycheck away,
From the life these nightmares are made of,
In darkness they hope to keep poverty at bay,
Saying prayers to their God in Heaven above.
~~
From that vagrant you see do not dart your eyes,
Instead offer an honest helping hand,
Remember the innocent child who cries,
Dirty, hungry and homeless in this promised land.
Love Lost in a Mind Field
By D. R. DiFrancesco
~~~~

I turn to find you gone,

This windowless doorless prison smothers me,

Stilling my bloodied heart,

All that is left to me are tears.

~~

Why did she leave, echos in my tormented head,

A whisper nagging at my last nerve,

Shuddering at the thought of abandonment,

Trapped and curled in a position most fetal.

~~

Questioning my very existence,

I claw at the walls wailing for release,

Nails broken, crimson shards surround me,

Dropping to my knees I sit in utter defeat.

~~

A darkness sets as I fall prone,

Naked and vulnerable the coarse stone chills me to the bone,

Jagged sharpness scars tender flesh,

Dulling the pain of your retreat.

~~

I struggle for composure,

Reaching out in the dark praying for your touch,

Doomed, I’m left drowning in solitary silence,

Drenched in the perspiration of despair.

~~

Why have I been left to this hellish place,

Did I not offer enough of myself to you,

Did I not cradle you in my loving passion,

What else could I have done?

~~

Sobbing I struggle to breathe,

Lamenting your loss I pound at the blood stained floor,

Begging for merciful forgiveness,

Your reply…only suffocating solitude.

~~

Passing seems imminent,

In desperation, euthanasia would be welcome,

I couldn’t have deserved such loneliness,

Quivering with exhaustion, I drift eternal sleep.

~~

Startled in a flush of adrenaline,

Wringing with sweat I strain to rise,

Where have you been, dribbles from my jaw tight lips,

Her blue eyes speak, by your side, to my nightmarish dream.

The Minds Eye

By D. R. DiFrancesco

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder,

As does love when souls grow older,

Doth the mind play tricks on the aging eye,

Maybe so, it most surely try.

Portraying the look of younger days,

We overlook the changing grays,

Projecting on the freshness of youth,

Beliefs most surely are the truth.

With utmost certainty a gift this must be,

For lovely today as the first are thee,

Is this a trick or are we but blind,

Left to the mercy of a hopeful mind.

Doth this make us mere fools to our memory,

Would have it no other way if it let me,

Hiding away the ravages of time,

Leaving in life a love most sublime.

Recapturing Innocence

By D. R. DiFrancesco

~

I found a place,

Deep inside me,

Warm and comforting,

Something I thought I’d lost.

~

So many years ago,

Innocence shielded me,

Harbored my emotions,

Enveloped me in the simplicity of youth.

~

Age changed,

I let my gentility drift off,

Replacing it with cynicism,

Spoiling the wonder of me.

~

The world didn’t change,

It is still just as wondrous,

Instead it was me that was corrupted,

My skepticism and pessimism changed my view.

~

Looking for the worst,

My fellow man could not be trusted,

Conniving and deceitful by nature,

I lost sight of the decent.

~

My perception flawed,

Skewed by life experience,

Taken as the standard bearer,

Distorting my future interactions.

~

Mistrust instills bitterness,

Fear of the worst is all consuming,

Depression and anxiety take root,

Trapping ugliness inside.

~

Tired of the sadness,

No longer recognizable,

It was not me in the mirror,

Rather a shell of who I was.

~

With eyes wide,

I looked deep,

Straining to find the innocent me,

Drawn to tears by the time I’d lost.

~

There is joy in letting go,

Finding good in what surrounds me,

Purging the cynic and skeptic,

Anchors that weighed me down.

~

I have found that place,

Pleasing to my body and soul,

Lost so many years ago,

To the ravages of maturity.

Love Eternal

By D. R. DiFrancesco

~~

Love, a sweet and fragile thing,

So often taken for granted,

Or tossed aside as insignificant.

~~

Only a heart blackened,

Burned and broken,

Could commit such a tragedy.

~~

Choosing to pass alone,

Lonely and cold,

Into the eternal night.

~~

Foolish choices,

Made by selfish men,

In the name of earthly gain.

~~

For what purpose,

Material possessions are finite,

Discarded on our last day.

~~

But is not love eternal,

Gifted freely from one to another,

Melding with our very souls.

~~

What a poor man is he,

Confined to his worldly goods,

While silence fills his rooms.

~~

Does not love will us to go on,

Strengthening our resolve,

Even in times of affliction.

~~

If this were this not the case,

I long ago would have ceased,

Suffocated by life’s despair.

~~

Choosing love instead is most natural,

Engraved into our very being,

‘Til death do us part.
