As Dusk Settles In (Tanka)

As dusk settles in

We bid farewell to the day

Ushering in night

Not so unlike that of man

Drifting from life into death

To Those Gone Without A Trace

To those gone without a trace,

What were your last thoughts?

What did you see?

What did you here?

To the  Atheists, did you find God?

To the Christians, did you ask Christ to save you?

To the Muslims, did Allah forgive you your sins?

This is not an indictment,

I would asked for all of this and so much more.

Did you feel abandoned?

Did your life flash before your eyes?

Did you see the faces of loved ones?

Did you hear the laughter of your children?

Surely I would have felt all of these things.

These questions bring me to tears.

I don’t know what I would think as I sat helpless,

And in the end would it really matter

In the face of impending doom?

These answers float on the wind,

And drift with the changing tides,

In places without names, undiscovered.

Know that wherever you are,

We think about you,

Hoping that your final rest is in peace.

Lost at sea.

Simple Song (Shadorma)

Simple song

That no one can hear

In my heart

Bringing joy

And a fullness to this life

That no other can

The Soul While on Earth

The soul while on earth struggles in the stairwell,

Longing to climb to heavenly heights.

This pursuit, no matter how noble and well intentioned

Does not come without warning.

Do not squander this life, nor disjoint from the Creator,

Whomever you hold that deity to be.

For surely you will suffer in the fires of hell

Which the devil’s bellow hath stoked.

Instead follow the avenue both straight and narrow,

For you are the seed planted in the furrow,

Not by accident, but by design to flourish.

Though I know you salivate to touch eternity,

All consumed by the promise of this lyrical dream,

You are here to make a difference,

To create, to fulfill the promise

…of your divine birth.

Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Wordle #4 Writing Prompt

Memories Dot Our Roadsides

Memories dot our roadsides,

Highway or rural it matters not.

Monuments hammered with tears serve as reminders,

Whitewashed, makeshift,

Adorned in faded flowers,

Bleached to muted hues by the noonday sun.

At times dressed with images,

Perhaps names or signs–loves of their lives;

Each one a silent storyteller.

Embarrassed, I often pass without offering a sympathetic glance,

Too consumed with my own circumstance to take notice.

This is not out of cruelty,

Nor is it for a lack of compassion,

But instead due to the chaos of everyday life.

Still–upon further reflection, I wonder…

Whose daughter, son, mother, father were they?

What story do they have to tell,

What were their hopes and dreams,

Are those left behind coping?

Questions are these for which I have no answer.

A solitary cross marks a souls final earthly moment,

Pleading to be noticed and remembered.

I hope to take the time, if only a moment

To wish their spirits well

And to pray for closure for those left behind.

Would You Know

Would you know day were it not for night?

Would you know joy were it not for sadness?

Would you know love were it not for hate?

Would you know good were it not for evil?

Would you know right were it not for wrong?

Would you know the feminine without the masculine?

Positive would be nothing without negative?

Negative would be nothing without positive?

Things would simply be,

Unrecognizable from another.

Think of all that would be unknown.

Without this duality

The perfect would be imperfect

And all would cease to exist.

What Lies Beyond We Can Never Know (Sonnet)

What lies beyond we can never know,

To fear the unknown is for the spirit weak.

Perception is purely what we show

And carried on the words we speak.

.

When we offer love to those who need,

Love returns a thousand fold.

Through this we plant a heavenly seed,

Divine this spirit we cannot hold.

.

Ours is not to gather and hoard,

But to share all that we’ve been graced.

These good deeds will never be scored,

Nor should we count the blessings placed.

.

This is why I believe we’re here, to help those who have lost their way.

This is how it has always been though often times we neglect to portray.

Two Simple Words

Two simple words,

Three little letters,

Commanded by God eons ago.

Spoken with respect or not spoken at all.

Blasphemous if taken personally.

Held sacred in the Torah as in the Old Testament.

Otherworldly–

Holy–

Instilling fear in the faithful–

But why?

Are we not made of God,

In the image of God,

Each a Creator in our own right?

As written in first John,

“He who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

So why are we so afraid?

If I am filled with love… am I not love?

And therefore,

If I am love am I not…

I Am?

Joy in the Melody of the Sparrow’s Song (Sonnet)

Joy in the melody of the sparrow’s song,

I sit in wonderment at the skies varied palette.

As though an observer, I feel I don’t belong,

Second fiddle in this heavenly ballad.

.

Yet my premise is false, I am part the story,

Woven into the fabric of our universe.

Sharing in its pain and relishing in its glory,

Though my time is for certain most terse.

.

Revealing in it’s beauty, I’m astonished by the day,

How perfection could have happen by chance.

A Universal Spirit must surely have had it’s way,

In this earthly and spiritual fire dance.

.

With each passing day, O’ how little I know,

Though I wouldn’t miss the chance to see the show.

In This Sea Of Blowing Sand

In this sea of blowing sand

I am but a speck seemingly insignificant.

In this vast and ever moving ocean

I am but a drop of water, nearly unrecognizable.

In this massive forest, thick and green

I am but a leaf, one of many that will wither and die.

In this blinding ivory white tundra

I am but a crystal of ice lost amongst the multitude.

In this throng of disparate humanity

I am but one in this crowd of my brothers and sisters.

But am I really this infinitesimal?

I think not because I choose to believe otherwise!

I am a creator,

I am the center,

I am significant

I am  recognizable,

I am unique as a grain of sand,

A drop of water,

A single leaf,

A crystal of ice.

I am who I choose to be!

Beholden to no one but myself.

I am the light of my world,

Creating my life ,

As I choose it to be.
