Hearts in fondness through distance do grow
Realizing in separation what for granted they take.
Something only two true lovers would know,
The commitment to each other the couple did make.
.
Irrational though sometimes the heart may appear
It knows what it wants without the logic of mind.
Enveloping in love the one held most dear
Just as it did at the beginning of their time.
.
Fickle they say is the lovers true love;
Blind to the dangers that lurk just beyond.
Intentions more pure than the whitest of doves,
Laid bare for the unfaithful their heart to abscond
.
Though pitfalls abound on this journey of the ages,
Not one thing would I change as this book turns its pages.

A raging storm brews
Devastation follows me
Like Typhoon Haiyan
I battle good and evil
To survive another day

Those who quickly judge
Can miss the greatness in life
That stands before them
Like ostriches in darkness
With their heads stuck in the sand

Who is he?
That is if he is a he and not a she?
He is whomever we need him to be.
He is all powerful to those that feel powerless.
He is all loving to those whose hearts are broken.
He is all forgiving to those who have gone astray.
He is all understanding to those who are in turmoil.
He is all comforting to those who have been wronged.
He is all knowing, all seeing, all hearing..
He is the reason for the good in this world.
He is the reason for the evil in this world.
He creates.
He destroys.
He punishes.
He saves.
We are his likeness.
We are him and he is us.
We can be powerful to help those feeling powerless.
We can be loving to those with hearts that are broken.
We can be forgiving to those who have gone astray.
We can be understanding to those who are in turmoil.
We can be comforting to those who have been wronged.
We can know, can see, can hear.
We can do good in this world.
We can do evil in this world.
We create.
We destroy.
We punish.
We save.
We look outside instead of looking inside.
Perhaps we had the answers all along,
But were too blind to see.
Perhaps…

More cold than the season could possibly express,
Hangs in the air and the hearts of man.
We speak not of atrocities, we’d rather repress
Waged against others by their brother’s hand.
.
Considering ourselves a civilized sort,
Still in prejudice and intolerance we stand.
Giving no venue for them to retort
In what with affection we call the promised land.
.
This promise so cruel–seems held for the few
While the rest us are left to our own devices
The whip of the wealthy cracks to tame the shrews
While living high amongst their golden vices
.
Inequalities based on race, creed and color exist no matter how we wish them to fade,
Persisting throughout the years, not because we are right, but instead because we are afraid.

Spirits suffer under winter’s wrath,
Testing one’s fortitude to it’s last.
With anger, depression, anxiety and stress,
Leaving our sanity in quite a mess.
One glimpse out the window, on an icy chill
Leaves us with nothing, but time to fill.
Stir-crazy or claustrophobic it matters not,
Being caged as animals, seems an evil plot.
Too dangerous to cross thresholds spiteful path,
Daring us to tempt fate with her frosty laugh.
Those who are bold may chance demise
And look at her face through watery eyes.
Hoping against frostbite or something worse,
That leaves you stiff under Jack Frost’s curse.
So maybe being cooped up isn’t so bad,
Compared to all that you could have had.
Hopefully being stuck with the ones you love
Doesn’t turn out to be such a terrible rub.
Just know that soon this too shall thaw
And leave you more joyful in springtime’s awe.
