100 Word Story: This Must Be Hell

This must be Hell!

Confusion clouds my senses as I sit drenched in sweat consumed by the blackness of this void.  I have clawed and scratched at the coarse stone walls for all these many hours to no avail.  The sting of broken nails and bloody fingers are the only reward for my efforts.

Pressing up, the ceiling offers no means of escape.  Instead the jagged rocky teeth tear my forearms and hands to ribbons…I am trapped!

Uncontrollable tears stream down my cheeks as I am resigned to my fate, that Hell is real and I’m going to die.

A Tender Kiss I Leave For Thee

A tender kiss I leave for thee

Upon thy cheek when you wake,

This day I leave on turbulent sea

Where chances are thy lover take.

Sheddeth not a sorrow-filled tear

Thine heart belongs the thee through time,

Though watery grave my end I fear

‘Tis enough to know thine heart is mine.

Pray for thee my lover pure

In this our night of last embrace,

Though parted love survives I’m sure

In memory of thy angelic face.

Thine smile comforts as farewell I bid, for journey toward mysterious lands,

Thy strength in sorrow thou surely hid, as gently you kiss my trembling hands.

50 Word Story: Black, White or Blue

I feel the pain with my last dying breath as the warmth of crimson surrounds me.  My legacy will be the chalk outline I’m soon to become ‘til washed away by the acid rains.

Whether black, white or blue, does it really matter when you’re dead.

…Death is color blind!

50 Word Story: Human Face of Immigration

Juan’s tears evaporate before they can run down his burned and blistered cheeks. Face down in the sand he see a vision of his wife and three small children.

Hawks Call For More War

Hawks call for more war

A peaceful resolution

Is the last resort

Someone I think is confused

When shedding blood is first choice

Reaping What We Sow

Reaping what we sow;

Hatred only breeds hatred

As history proves.

See the neverending wars,

The eternal racism.

Turning a blind eye;

Pretending it doesn’t live

Does not make it true.

Ever since nine eleven

War has been never ceasing.

Ferguson…murder,

Baltimore, New York City

Charleston…again murder!

Racial hatred at its worst,

Plantation mentality.

This land of the free

Has sadly become a myth…

Just look at the news.

We are in shackles to war,

Racism, hatred and greed.

Sadly we don’t see

We are mice on the treadmill

Blindly taking bait.

I guess it really is true…

We are reaping what we’ve sown.

What Lives Within Us

What lives within us,

Deep beneath skin’s shallowness?

Beauty is finite

Where the senses are concerned.

Time eats away at our flesh…

No one is immune.

The mirror lies to the young.

Tricked by ignorance

They believe it’s forever.

Surely age doth prove them wrong

As it has done for eons.

Better spent is time

Seeing the beauty within.

Love and compassion,

They have no physical bounds…

They cannot be kept.

These are things of true beauty,

Things cherished for a lifetime.

Given with no material cost,

But having immeasurable value

These are what are precious to me.

This is the beauty,

That lies deep within.

Laid to Final Rest

Laid to final rest

With a farewell and kind words.

Eulogies given;

The famous and powerful

Came to pay their last respects.

But is this enough,

We’ve been down this road before;

It’s paved with their blood.

Is this just more lip service

Paid to appease the people?

As the saying goes,

Actions speak louder than words,

This can’t be denied.

Maybe the edge has been reached

Finally putting an end to the hate.

Only time will tell

If these deaths have been for naught.

With man at the wheel

Anything is possible,

But I for one hope for change.

Confederate Flag

Confederate flag–

Symbol of our darkest time,

Human slavery.

Prideful in their ignorance

There are those still full of hate.

Don’t they understand,

There are wounds as yet unhealed–

Open and bleeding.

Each raising stings of poured salt

In an already deep gash.

I weep for their pain.

Have they not suffered enough

At your racist hands?

The shame is you don’t see it

Being blinded by false pride.
