We Live In A Time Of Paranoia And Prejudice

We live in a time of paranoia and prejudice,

Danger lurking around every corner,

Evil in strangers faces we pass on the street.

Every act of senseless violence is labeled terrorism,

Can not a murder just be a murder?

Despicable as it is this act has transcended our history.

Must religious affiliation define every murderous act?

Must every act of violence be by the hands of a terrorist?

Vigilance is indeed prudent

Though hypervigilance is divisive.

This world if full of people with mental instability.

Those disillusioned by their circumstances.

Many feeling small or invisible

Seeking attention by the most horrible means.

Christians and Jews are among them

Though they are not so quickly label terrorists.

Our government is in collusion with the media

Spreading fear and hysteria, but to what end?

Perhaps to convince us to willingly forfeit our freedoms

All under the guise of greater protection.

Just realize that once gone

Freedoms lost will be difficult to recapture.

Gone

Gone

Greatness

This country

Spiraling down

Grand Experiment

Being stretched very thin

Perhaps it has run its course

Government is broken

Diplomacy dead

General angst

Future bleak

What next

Vote!

To Protect And Server

To protect and serve

Whole communities in fear

Race should not matter

But it does and always has

More so in this day and age

Policing has changed

More vicious, less tolerant

They’re militarized

Controlling people by fear

Instead of using respect

When did this happen

Jackboots on the peoples necks

Tanks in city streets

Science fiction is now real

Welcome to the brave new world

The Silent Killer (Senryu)

The silent killer
Ebola the fifth horsemen
Can we stop its reign

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Fearmongers Abound

Fearmongers abound

Ebola, ISIS, healthcare

Scaring the masses

Nothing more than politics

Spread by corrupt media

“Fair and Balanced”, ha!

They all have an agenda

Manipulation

Not to report and inform

But to divide and conquer

The Ghost Killer

The ghostly killer
Whose silent voyage complete
Rests within our shores
The price paid for our freedom
The cost of humanity
Testing fortitude
Will we practice what we preach

Please Tell Me

Please tell me….

What does it look like to win?

Ideology can’t be defeated on the battlefield,

No matter how you try you can’t kill it.

You can kill its adherents,

Destroying the body, but their hate lives on.

Containment is decried as weak,

Nothing short of all out war satisfies the hawks,

Annihilation of everyone and everything their only answer.

So then, please tell me…

What does the enemy look like?

Muslim?

Dark skinned?

Light skinned?

Man?

Woman?

Child?

Young?

Old?

Sounds like the faces of the innocent and the guilty.

Can you please tell me…

How will you know your foe?

They will not come at you waving a flag.

They will not march upon your positions in perfect high-step.

They will not be clothed in matching uniforms,

Blaring their trumpets and saluting.

So tell me again…

Who is the enemy?

The farmer?

The shopkeeper?

The mechanic?

The soldier?

The school teacher?

The Imam?

The mother?

The father?

The child?

Would you have us kill every living thing just to make your point?

You rhetoric says that you would!

Someone please tell me…

What does it look like to win?

Complicit Are They

Complicit are they

Brandishing their mighty swords

While crying for war

They hold the blade to our necks

Prepared to slaughter skeptics

Monsters, murderers

A mess of their creation

Denied as fiction

How short the memory is

When the Right can blame the Left

Charm Of The South

Emboldened by the summer breeze;

Sun beating on my weathered face,

Gravel crunching beneath my leather shod feet,

Each step draws me further back in time.

Aging plantations blossom from manicured fields,

Emblazoned with flora befitting their past grandeur.

The smell of honeysuckle and cyprus fills the air;

Wondrous is this coalition of scents to the senses.

Wrought iron gates entangled with succulent ivy

Announce the arrival of weary travelers.

Startled… I flush with uncontrollable tears

To realize this beauty is merely a facade.

Hiding ugliness in vibrant color and polished hedge,

Fountains and statues scream of their opulence.

This walk, I so leisurely stroll is etched in blood,

Hoed by chain and shackle;

We gawk in awe at these marvels of charm.

Reminiscing over Scarlett and Rhett;

Nothing but celluloid dreams of an imaginary south.

What of those treated as lesser crops,

Bought and sold like cotton and tobacco,

Building, maintaining, harvesting and subserving;

Flesh and blood herded as cattle…or something less!

Where is the romance…where is the southern charm?

Remember on whose backs this was built.

Remember whose backs were broken for a profit.

Remember on whose backs these estates were preserved.

Only then can you look through clear eyes and clear conscience

At what these really were…

Prisons.

Separation Pains My Heart (Sonnet)

Separation pains my heart, that’s yours,

So long we’ve been together, I dread us part.

Loneliness invades with the latching door,

For fear that your love with you departs.

Foolish I know are these thoughts of you leaving,

Kindred souls we’ve become with the passage of time.

No sense does it make for my heart to be grieving,

When the love that we have has been nothing, but sublime.

Insecurity, but why, is the question to be pondered,

You’ve given me no reason to impart any concern.

Supposing instead that commitment might wander,

After all of these years you think I’d have learned.

The strength of our love has never been contested, nor ever shall it be during this life.

Nothing in this world could ever have bested, the passion that I have for you being my wife.
