The Smell Of Baked Bread

The smell of baked bread

Like perfume of memory

Grandma at the stove

O’ how joyful was childhood

When things were much simpler

Adulthood does dull

Senses fade to the background

Turning cynical

Happiness replaced by stress

O’ how soon we do forget

Just As Guilty Am I

Just as guilty am I,

Wallowing in self-pity,

Focusing on the negative, worrying,

Blaming others for my station

Trying to will destiny to my vision

Instead of trusting in the Divine.

I need not worry;

All things will be as they should

Without my intervention.

I must flow like the river

Fluid and forgiving ‘til the end

If I am to be one with the Spirit.

I know that suffering is unnecessary

This life is full of abundance,

The Tao will provide for me

Giving me all that I need

By showing me the Way.

Cool and Refreshing

Cool and refreshing

I touched her to my lips.

Sweetly anointing my soul,

Her love cradling me,

Caressing me with a silken hand.

She is soft yet passionate;

Flowing over me,

In me, through me.

Under my lover’s touch

I am vulnerable to her spell.

Just as clay in her hands

I am kneaded,

Ready to do her bidding

Without question or concern.

She likewise–

Is the caldron I stir,

Churning desire with each stroke

Until she boils over.

Two souls melding into one,

Flesh on flesh,

Heartbeats in unison,

Never to be parted

In this life or the next.

Must We Acquire

Must we acquire,

Hoarding what we do not need?

This–the western way,

Insatiable avarice

For money and possessions.

What is this sickness?

Is not a roof, bed and food

Enough to appease?

Incessant hunger say no

As we persist to garner.

When the bell does toll

We find this was all for naught;

None of it mattered.

Kindness, love and happiness

Were all we ever needed.

Pearls In The Nighttime Sky

Pearls in the nighttime sky,

Surely they must be the light of angels.

Visible to the mortal eye,

Things of myth and divine fables.

Twinkling hope from up above,

Promising man a life here after.

Quieting the mind and heart with love,

Giving joy with bouts of laughter.

Adhara, Nashira, Mira, Alcyone,

Shining from the heavens beyond.

Watching, protecting ‘til time on earth is done,

Guiding their charges to the calm.

The Candle Flickers (Tanka)

The candle flickers

Growing ever more brilliant

As it burns through time

Not unlike my loving heart

Offered without condition

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

Namaste (Acrostic)

Nowhere and Everywhere,

All things and No-thing,

Master and Servant–God,

Acknowledging the Divine in you

Satisfies my soul

Teaching me to love others

Even more than myself.

~~ Dominic R. DiFrancesco ~~

At Times Love Doth Tame (Tanka)

At times love doth tame

At others it bites with fang

Either I cherish

For to live without loving

Is to live an empty life

The Sun Still Rose

The sun still rose as I knew it would,

The birds sang their songs,

The winds blew strong,

The grass remained green just as it should.

In dawns dim light I opened my eyes,

My wife lay sleeping by my side,

My children in the next rooms reside,

All of these cause joy in my heart to rise.

The waters flow cooling parched earth,

The skies still a brilliant shade of blue,

The flowers bloom as they always do,

These more valuable than material worth.

Life continues like every other day,

As it has O’ these fifty years on,

Caring not the least as each new day dawns,

For it knows no other way.

I guess I’m just part of this natural flow,

Arriving then passing with time,

Like the bird and the beast and the tree and the vine,

I’ll receive my calling to go.

Some Say It Is A Window Into The Soul

Some say it is a window into the soul,

But me…well, I don’t know

I run, I jump, I laugh and cajole

As though I’m putting on a show.

The youth in me knows not this bodies age,

Ignoring the aches and the pains.

Like a Mad Hatter on the Phantoms stage,

Tossing aside my horses reins.

Playing in the grass, flying kites high in the sky,

Living for just having fun.

Juvenile maybe, lets just say that I try,

Hoping for much longer from where I’d begun.

This is how I choose to live a fairytale life,

One of fullness, prosperity and joy.

Living without the stress and the mind numbing strife,

That so many chose to employ.

Then a look in the mirror reveals an inevitable truth,

That no one can run from their age.

Bags and wrinkles are not things of one’s youth,

As each year turns the next page.

In my minds eye I’m still the same person I was

O’ those many years gone by.

Only the blind would be ignorant of the cause,

No matter how hard they may try.

So the moral to this story is one I believe

To live in happiness and in peace.

Keep the child in your heart, never to cleave,

And your elation will surely increase.
