A Thirst Consumes

A thirst consumes me

One which water cannot quench

Is there a Heaven

Is there a hell, I don’t know

God knows…if he exists

This question of faith

To believe or disbelieve

I struggle alone

For no one can know my mind

Or the spirit within me

Could This Life Be Hell – A Tanka

Could this life be Hell

Meant to test our mortal souls

Through torment and pain

Nothing is impossible

In the wisdom of God’s plan

Farewell Knights Templar

The blood curdling scream from the dungeon below,

Made John pray to God for the hangman’s gallows.

This soldier of God stripped of vestments so pure,

Now nameless and faceless a test he was sure.

~

I’ve done what was asked by king, country and Pope

In exchange for a promise to Heaven elope.

If I fall in battle to those savages in the east,

To sling, bow and arrow or some other horrid beast.

~

Instead I’m betrayed by the kinsman I protect;

By cowards and fools those insignificant specks.,

Hiding behind crown whilst I lay on this rack,

Fingers and toes broke while they flail on my back.

~

These charges of heresy are baseless and false,

I’ll deny to my death, to my last beating pulse.

Phillip IV King of motherland France,

Cooked up this scheme devious to embolden his stance.

~

Our riches and land to be his at all costs,

No matter the lives of the Templar that are lost.

Castle and fortress captured by the crown,

Confiscated before Pope Clement could resound.

~

This murderous thief will be judged before God,

Without royal finements, naked and unshod.

Surely he’ll be banished to Hades for his crimes,

Whilst I’ll be looking down on his torment for all times.

~

Justice will be served though draw and quarter is my fate,

I long for the Lord at Saint Peter’s pearly gate.

For the righteous will receive promised Heaven’s just due,

Whilst river of fire awaits souls of evil to be threw.

~

Soon my dear comrades in paradise I will join,

Those of you who’ve gone before by the heathen on the coin.

We’ll reap our sweet vengeance on this coward of the throne,

He’ll burn in Hell, consumed by fire, for eternity alone.

Sin and Goodness

Sin and goodness

Are separated by a razors edge.

~

This pair expounded

By the fallible minds of men.

~

One only need look internal

To see their own fallibilities.

~

A query is begged of you;

Are the sins of the single mother,

Who resorts to harlotry to feed her children,

Any greater a sin in the eyes of God

Than those of the wealthy who hoard their riches

While ignoring the plight of the poor and infirm?

~

True sin resides in greed and contempt,

Goading sin from otherwise good souls.

~

The mothers desperation urged by good intent,

While the wealthy was compelled

Out of selfishness and pomposity.

~

Lines between sin and goodness blur

Through the perceptions of man.

~

Objectivity escapes us in our passion;

Making us the poorest of judges.

~

Would not their fates be best left

To the sagacity of God?

Godlessness

I do not question the existence of God,

I question the existence of godlessness

Ever so pervasive in this hedonistic world.

So sure am I that even the inattentive cannot be blind,

Look around you, everywhere around you,

Do you not see the mountains, oceans, rivers, flowers,

Do you not see the sun, the moon, the stars above,

Do you not see your mother, father, wife, children?

All right before you,

Shining examples of the goodness of the Creator.

Step back, for just a moment, from the materialism that cripples you,

Look to the sky,

Feel the sun on your face,

Smell the fragrance of a rose,

Embrace those that you love,

These are all gifts from God,

Not to be taken for granted,

Not some random creation, weird science or cosmic coincidence.

Beauty lies all around you as it alway has,

If only you will open your eyes,

Open your hearts,

Open your minds,

To the greatness of the Maker.

Seeking Answers – A Tanka

Tormented souls weep

Looking skyward for answers

Like astronomers

Seeking what can not be seen

With the naked eye of man

Vision in White

Light…blinding as weary eyes struggle to see

A vision from lore, dressed in white

Stands before me with outstretched hand

“Walk with me.”, he whispered

I, incapable of uttering a word,

Am I mute,

Am I stunned to silence

I cannot fathom

As unshod feet touch the naked floor

I place trembling hand– in hand

“Be not afraid.”, spoken with a tender smile

“I’m not.”, escapes from parched lips

Peace washes over me as I shuffle

Lead by the kindly stranger

Toward the light nearer and brighter

I was not afraid– to my surprise

Weariness replaced with joy

I longed to reach our unbeknownst destination

Enveloped in the warmth of the light

My Guide in white became clear

Eyes opened wide

Heaven lay boundlessly before me

I was in the hand of God
