In silence–screaming
Something only I can hear
Urging me onward
Headlong into the unknown
A metaphysical quest

Memories dot our roadsides,
Highway or rural it matters not.
Monuments hammered with tears serve as reminders,
Whitewashed, makeshift,
Adorned in faded flowers,
Bleached to muted hues by the noonday sun.
At times dressed with images,
Perhaps names or signs–loves of their lives;
Each one a silent storyteller.
Embarrassed, I often pass without offering a sympathetic glance,
Too consumed with my own circumstance to take notice.
This is not out of cruelty,
Nor is it for a lack of compassion,
But instead due to the chaos of everyday life.
Still–upon further reflection, I wonder…
Whose daughter, son, mother, father were they?
What story do they have to tell,
What were their hopes and dreams,
Are those left behind coping?
Questions are these for which I have no answer.
A solitary cross marks a souls final earthly moment,
Pleading to be noticed and remembered.
I hope to take the time, if only a moment
To wish their spirits well
And to pray for closure for those left behind.

Dear son–a man now
I must learn to let you go
~~ You have seen so much

Privy to others conversations, my ears are burning,
Listening to the incessant feeding of negatives hunger.
Voraciously seeking the sympathy, they’re yearning,
Causing me to wince, my nerves they shudder.

Perpetuating hatred–conspiracy under guise of neutrality,
Practicing not what they publicly preach.
Choosing instead to live a different reality,
One that’s close-minded, but so in their reach.

Why is it that man prefers deafness, to be blind,
Rather than change the narrowness of anuninformed course.
Archaic is their thinking of the most ignorant kind,
Thinking they can change others, spewing shallow discourse.

If only they would look inside to goodness buried deep within,
No place could vile hatred hide, the world’s healing would begin.

Does grass strain to grow
Fighting against its nature
No–it simply sprouts
Doing by perfect design
Just as we are born to do

Does the bird worry
They know not of tomorrow
Only of today
Man alone shows his concern
For that which may never come

Raging storms of emotion
Depressing spirits,
Letting go–while oft advised, remains elusive.
Instead we choose to perpetuate past wrongs,
Embodying our history as if the present,
Reliving it day after day after day.
This does not promote the fullness of life,
Rather it stunts our happiness;
That which is our God given right.
Healing begins with forgiveness,
Forgiving yourself…
Not for the despicable act
That which was not of your doing,
But for the effect it has on your soul.
It is not necessary to forgive the perpetrator,
They are not worthy–
Nor a requisite for healing.
This is your life,
Take it back,
Live in the light,
Dig deep within yourself,
Choose to live in the joy that was gifted to you
–By your birth.

Would you know day were it not for night?
Would you know joy were it not for sadness?
Would you know love were it not for hate?
Would you know good were it not for evil?
Would you know right were it not for wrong?
Would you know the feminine without the masculine?
Positive would be nothing without negative?
Negative would be nothing without positive?
Things would simply be,
Unrecognizable from another.
Think of all that would be unknown.
Without this duality
The perfect would be imperfect
And all would cease to exist.

What’s reality
But a dream of my choosing
~~ Either good or bad

I am resigned…
That I am but a drop in the greater waterfall of humanity.
Yet without me the waterfall would be incomplete.
Regardless of how seemingly insignificant
I am integral to this perfect design.
I take comfort in knowing that this world would be a different place without me.
World events today, our history would not be the same,
Nothing that is happening
Or has happened in this lifetime
Would have occurred precisely the same way without my existence.
What we do,
The love we emit,
The hearts we touch,
Ripple out into the world at large
Affecting everything and everyone.
Yes, I am resigned…
That I am but a drop in the greater waterfall of humanity,
But I am never discouraged.
