Austerity

Anger erupting like Nisyros

Unemployment and suicide on the rise

Still the Troika attacks

Testing the fortitude of the masses

Edging them ever closer to destruction

Reeling from each blow

Individuals and businesses collapse

Til the vultures come in for the scraps

Your country could be next on their hit list

Little man

Inspiring fear,

Nostradamus of the Senate.

Do you see into the future?

Selling your snake oil to the masses

Even you can’t believe your own spiel,

Yammering on about how tough you are.

Give up already,

Recycled warmongering is getting old.

Aren’t you exhausted,

Haven’t your policies done enough damage?

America should be a beacon of peace not of violence.

Maybe it’s time for you to go.

Starstruck

Superstars a dime a dozen

Talent is optional

Anyone with a camera

Rates fifteen minutes of fame

Sadly they are venerated

The dumbing down of society has begun

Roses for the bachelorette

Untalented singers spoofing the Idol

Children performing dangerous stunts on the “Tube”

Killing what’s left of true stardom

Dignity

Do what you will to me

I am immune.

Grab at me, gnaw on my bones,

Nick my veins and let me bleed out

I will not submit.

This body is not me, I am eternal

You have not the strength to reduce me

Confusion (Acrostic)

Chaos corrals me

Only to cut me loose with a fury

Nothing makes sense anymore

Frying my feeble brain

Useless is it to resist

Steely is her grip

Instead I submit

Only to plunge deeper into the darkness

Never to return

Forgotten (Acrostic)

Forced into uselessness

Our society deems them a nuisance

Retiring them to the annals of history

Gone are the days they were revered

Only a culture of arrogance would discard their wisdom

Trusting instead in the coldness of technology

This is our way, leaving them out in the cold

Entombing them before their time

Never seeing beyond the length of their years

Restless (Acrostic)

Reading, writing

Everything and anything to sleep

Standing on my head…no I can’t do that

Tick-tock goes the clock

Listening to the voice in my head

Eager for it to be silent

Staring into the darkness

Secure that it will be another sleepless night

Revered and reviled

In modernity and antiquity,

Very few realize she is dying.

Ever less grand she trickles;

Redirected for selfishness sake.

Justify as you will,

Only time will reveal your fate.

Reality will creep in upon you,

Draining your life blood

As you have drained hers…

Never realizing until its too late.

Imagination

Imagination is…

Inspiration for the painter’s brush,

Muse for the writer’s quill,

Angst for the actor’s role,

Gas for the engine of invention,

Irreverence to the twisted of mind,

Nuance for the singers song,

Ability for those challenged,

Tenacity in the hearts of the weak,

Ingenuity in the hands of the creative,

Omniscience in the eyes of the faithful,

Nobility in the lives of the insignificant,

…And so much more.

Suspicion (Acrostic)

Scent of musk

Undulating in my nostrils,

Somehow I know it’s not mine.

Pretend that you have been faithful,

Infidelity is so unbecoming on you.

Cautious smiles flirt across your face.

I know that you know that I know the truth;

Only denial seems much less painful.

Now for the encore.
