The Gathering Storm (Tanka)

The gathering storm

Perfect bout–Heaven and Hell

There are no victors

Yet we remain undeterred

Fighting ‘til our final day

Who Is He

Who is he?

That is if he is a he and not a she?

He is whomever we need him to be.

He is all powerful to those that feel powerless.

He is all loving to those whose hearts are broken.

He is all forgiving to those who have gone astray.

He is all understanding to those who are in turmoil.

He is all comforting to those who have been wronged.

He is all knowing, all seeing, all hearing..

He is the reason for the good in this world.

He is the reason for the evil in this world.

He creates.

He destroys.

He punishes.

He saves.

We are his likeness.

We are him and he is us.

We can be powerful to help those feeling powerless.

We can be loving to those with hearts that are broken.

We can be forgiving to those who have gone astray.

We can be understanding to those who are in turmoil.

We can be comforting to those who have been wronged.

We can know, can see, can hear.

We can do good in this world.

We can do evil in this world.

We create.

We destroy.

We punish.

We save.

We look outside instead of looking inside.

Perhaps we had the answers all along,

But were too blind to see.

Perhaps…

Simply Being Kind (Tanka)

Simply being kind

So incredibly easy

Yet hard for so many

Its easier to be cruel

Than to see good in others

In The End

Gather up what to you belongs

It serves no purpose once you’re gone

A lifetime spent in hordish gather

In the end what does it matter

We collect and prize our worldly wares

Empty handed we climb the stairs

Meaningless in the grand scheme of things

To claw and scratch for golden ring

This buys you nothing in the end

How sad to see this is the trend

He who has the most stuff losses

If this path the fool doth chooses

Instead look upon your fellow man

Offer them an outstretched hand

For one and all we are the same

In this life a finite game

More wealth derived from acts of kindness

Than all that’s earthly left behind us

Believe or not this must be true

As I strive in all I do

Though I sometimes stumble and often fail

I choose to believe this sober tale

Naivety – A Tanka

Maybe I’m naive

Always looking for the good

Instead of the bad

Pessimism taints the soul

Leaving it to die hollow

A Thirst Consumes

A thirst consumes me

One which water cannot quench

Is there a Heaven

Is there a hell, I don’t know

God knows…if he exists

This question of faith

To believe or disbelieve

I struggle alone

For no one can know my mind

Or the spirit within me

There Are Times When I’ve Forgotten Why I’m Here

There are times when I’ve forgotten why I’m here.

So much is happening around me yet I feel powerless.

Overwhelmed, at times I wish to bury my head in the sand,

But this is not me!

I refuse to sit idly by, while others contribute?

I am not helpless!

I cannot be a passive observer of injustice,

As this would make me no better than they.

I will not stand by, oblivious to the callousness of man,

For what kind of man would that make me.

These are the enabler’s of genocide and war,

Bigotry, hatred and inequality toward our equals,

Repression of those of lesser will,

Arrogance and ignorance,

I will take no part in these travesties!

I do not need God to beseech of me,

For I already know what is right and good.

With this I will find my way on the straightened path,

My moral compass to guide me,

In my journey to affect change.

Though We Never Met – A Tanka

My dearest of friends

Though our paths have never crossed

Call me your brother

Fall into my outstretched arms

I will be there to catch you

Curiosity, Friend or Foe

At times a troublemaker,

Like the kid up the street,

Always wanting to pick a fight.

Not for any reason really…

Just curious.

Curiosity–

Is it friend or foe?

Yes!

On both counts. Yes!

What discoveries might have been lost?

What cures for disease,

Missions to the moon,

Lost civilizations,

Were it not for man’s insatiable appetite?

But at times our hunger kills the cat.

With chemical warfare,

Nuclear bombs,

And crime.

All because,

We were just…

Curious.
