Although They’re Older

Although they’re older

Children still seek approval

It’s human nature

Do not be too judgemental

Or you will push them away

What a tragedy

And a travesty this is

To our flesh and blood

These are wounds that do not heal

Because we need to be right

Privy to Others Conversations (Sonnet)

Privy to others conversations, my ears are burning,

Listening to the incessant feeding of negatives hunger.

Voraciously seeking the sympathy, they’re yearning,

Causing me to wince, my nerves they shudder.

~

Perpetuating hatred–conspiracy under guise of neutrality,

Practicing not what they publicly preach.

Choosing instead to live a different reality,

One that’s close-minded, but so in their reach.

~

Why is it that man prefers deafness, to be blind,

Rather than change the narrowness of anuninformed course.

Archaic is their thinking of the most ignorant kind,

Thinking they can change others, spewing shallow discourse.

~

If only they would look inside to goodness buried deep within,

No place could vile hatred hide, the world’s healing would begin.

Pondering The Path Of My Oft Written Word (Sonnet)

Pondering the path of my oft written word,

So much of my ink reeks of despair.

Wallowing in pity and the ills of this world,

Finding negativity to be very unfair.

~

Feeding and nurturing causes nothing but harm,

Perpetuating sadness to a greater degree.

Raising awareness and causing alarm,

Missing the good in all that I see.

~

Regret fills my heart for its adverse contribution,

Changing its path is my journey of life.

Believing in love instead of divine retribution,

Destined for virtue not sorrow and strife.

~

Sustaining the horrors of this world denies change,

Perpetual harm and devastation does it arrange.

What is the Cost

What is the cost of kindness, love, compassion,

Nothing and everything I propose.

No monetary value do they hold.

They cannot be bought or sold as livestock.

They are invisible, but for their gestures.

This by no means diminishes their value.

Priceless are they above the grandest diamond,

But do not be fooled,

They most surely take ravenously as does the thief.

Taking stress and casting it into the wind,

Taking hate and smothering it until breathless,

Taking selfishness and warming it with empathy.

Nothing but good can come of these

Yet we find them most difficult to freely offer.

How much improved would this world be,

For all that we sow we reap

Either in this life or the next.

Trying to Stay Above the Fray

Trying to stay above the fray,

In spite of the traps laid at my feet.

Some have tried to tease anger to the surface;

Unreasonable requests

Rush judgments,

Poking and prodding, tools of this trade.

I refuse to succumb,

Instead I will look within for strength,

Seeking a joyful place to center myself.

On occasion failures have succeeded–

Yet I refuse to scourge myself over failings,

They are, but momentary and quickly pass.

I am above all of this minutiae,

It is nothing–white-noise lobbed to distract.

With this realization I have strengthened my resolve

And I am resolved to rise above.

A Joyful Noise Sings In My Heart

A joyful noise sings in my heart it echoes loud and clear

Always there yet subtle, until I chose to hear

Misery and failure so often self-imposed

To those whose minds are weakened, shuttered tightly closed

We’re here on earth to be happy, harmonious in our life

Free from inner turmoil, free from endless strife

Still hopelessness persists and plagues the hearts of man

As it has always been since our time began

Knowledge is the power that will break this horrid trend

Solving war and poverty will bring it to it’s end

A precious gift to all mankind comes wrapped in simple love

The answer to our problems which came from up above

Or has love always been in us, but hidden by our pride

Afraid to share with others, instead we chose to hide

Convinced we’ve always had it, I give it from the heart

In time it will bring together rather than tear apart

For loving is far easier than the stress of eternal hate

Getting what we give will be our ultimate fate

Simply Being Kind (Tanka)

Simply being kind

So incredibly easy

Yet hard for so many

Its easier to be cruel

Than to see good in others

A Winter Wind Blows (Haiku)

A winter wind blows
Across the barren landscape

How Odd It Is At This Ponderous Time (Sonnet)

How odd it is at this ponderous time

The bridge we cross ‘tween joy and sorrow.

Meant to share in Christmas rhyme

Instead we fret about tomorrow.

Is not this day of bread and drink,

Of Christ and gifts and family and friends,

To mean much more than what we think,

Yet still we stifle good will towards men.

We forgo a day to celebrate in joy,

As many can give no more than tears.

Another year their dreams destroyed;

They should not suffer torment and fears.

Amongst the presents and lights and bows

Be certain the kindness of Christmas does show.

Venture Into This World (Sonnet)

Venture into this world with a free and open mind

Let not negativity toward spirit corrupt

As the old saying goes “Seek and ye shall find”

Push onward and never give up

.

This world–an oyster–is yours to discover

The wonders and mysteries await

Secrets yet unknown are yours to uncover

As curiosity and passion conflate

.

Do not ever doubt your pureness of heart

Or your ability to achieve in this world

There is so much ahead before time to depart

Let this tapestry of life be unfurled

.

If ever you feel that you’re mired and afraid

Know I’m here, through your successes I’m repaid

.
