Hostage to passion
I open my heart to you
Like a treasure chest
Only to find it emptied
Riches callously stolen

Lifelong friend,
We speak without speaking,
Share a history we both have lived,
Characters in a story that we both have told.
Our parents cut from a similar mould,
Blue collar, God fearing, salt of the earth
We are cut from that same cloth.
Neighbors as children and again as adults,
More like sisters than our sisters,
Distance only a temporary hindrance,
How peculiar our bond.
What path our futures may hold, I do not know,
What I do know is that you will color mine,
And I yours,
Lifelong friend.

* Written from my wife’s point of view about her best friend who she has know since she was 6 years old. They grew up together almost 3,000 miles (and 40 years ago) from where we live now and now her best friend and her husband live waking distance from us. That is a friendship, one which I never had. I think this is wonderful.
I do not question the existence of God,
I question the existence of godlessness
Ever so pervasive in this hedonistic world.
So sure am I that even the inattentive cannot be blind,
Look around you, everywhere around you,
Do you not see the mountains, oceans, rivers, flowers,
Do you not see the sun, the moon, the stars above,
Do you not see your mother, father, wife, children?
All right before you,
Shining examples of the goodness of the Creator.
Step back, for just a moment, from the materialism that cripples you,
Look to the sky,
Feel the sun on your face,
Smell the fragrance of a rose,
Embrace those that you love,
These are all gifts from God,
Not to be taken for granted,
Not some random creation, weird science or cosmic coincidence.
Beauty lies all around you as it alway has,
If only you will open your eyes,
Open your hearts,
Open your minds,
To the greatness of the Maker.

Consumed by treasure
Riches are not wealth alone
Like the love of gold
Love of family enriches
Living on after we’re gone

Blasphemous lies spewed
Like daggers thrust, filleting us
Cowardice revealed as your forte’
I knew you not as well as I thought
Your blackened heart splayed
Expelling hatred, thick and vile
Engulfing what once I treasured
Swallowing it whole
With nary a trace to be had
Why? Is the question
For I know not what baited this provocation
Friendship at length counts for naught
Preferring to wrench away
Every miniscule crumb of what bound us
With sorrow I begged explanation
But none was offered
Receiving only silence in response
With sadness I must bid adieu
Wishing you only the best
I harbor no ill will
Hoping one day for reconciliation
Until then my friend
Farewell

A tantric passion
Born of wanton desire
Is likely short lived
When forged of the physical
But void mutual love

Light…blinding as weary eyes struggle to see
A vision from lore, dressed in white
Stands before me with outstretched hand
“Walk with me.”, he whispered
I, incapable of uttering a word,
Am I mute,
Am I stunned to silence
I cannot fathom
As unshod feet touch the naked floor
I place trembling hand– in hand
“Be not afraid.”, spoken with a tender smile
“I’m not.”, escapes from parched lips
Peace washes over me as I shuffle
Lead by the kindly stranger
Toward the light nearer and brighter
I was not afraid– to my surprise
Weariness replaced with joy
I longed to reach our unbeknownst destination
Enveloped in the warmth of the light
My Guide in white became clear
Eyes opened wide
Heaven lay boundlessly before me
I was in the hand of God
